LEAVING A CAR for a long time.

I am thinking to leave the country for half year and more and thinking to leave my car outside my place, which means car will not be turned on for that time period. I know the battery will be completely dead by that time I come back, which I ackknowledge, but I wonder what else could possibly be affected as a result of leaving a car for a prolonged amount of time without starting.

Most important to change all fluids for fresh ones, specially oil, gas, coolant, brake fluid, but specially oil, and gas. Also put some fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank (available at boat shops).

Check these out:

Hope this helps...

Change the oil before you go to synthetic, and put some fuel stabilizer in the gas tank. Run the car until warm to circulate everything, then park it. You can remove the battery (make sure you have the radio code) and keep it inside somewhere. When you get back, charge up the battery and you should be good to go. This process is common with boat engines in northern climates, as they are out of the water for six months or so yearly.

someone might notice the car not moved for a while, and if u have any valuable stuff inside, they might break into it. your tires will most likely get flat spots from sitting for so long.

Before I drove my car it sat for half a year and it developed a lot of rust in the rotors and other areas from snow and rain. If you can cover the car then I would def do that.

Follow ChucksCL-S's procedure. And if you don't have a garage to put it in, leave it at a relative/friend's house with a cover on it?

Cool

The car im driving now, It sat from 2005-nov 2008 out side, uncovered, and it started right up with a quick jump.. Now i did not just drive it, im not stupid, I Changed the tires, oil & filter, Air filter, spark plugs, wires, Cleaned the TB, ERG valve, changed transmission fluid and filter, brakes, Coolat and T-stat, rad hoses, Motor mount, did a couple of MMO tretments, and fuel cleaner, Flushed brake fluid, and also changed PS Fluid.. Okay, im way OT, Lol, so anyways, for 6 months your car should be fine, I would do what everyone else said, and your car will start right up. Cheers! Also Give it a real good clean, And a wax.

disconnect the battery completely. i had a buddy who's dad passed away and left behind a 94 stang. they let it sit in the garage for few years and a new battery didnt help. they needed to replace a bunch of electrical wiring because of not disconnecting. car had to be towed to a shop.

Do what Chuck suggested. If you take the battery out of the car and place it in the garage or basement DO NOT set it on concrete. Place it on a piece of wood.

i do car storage we provide battery tenders and start the vehicles every so often also where are u storing the car inside or out? where do u live?whats the climate like cause if u leave it out side weather will effect the brake rotors they tend to rust a little bit if u store it inside take the battery out and keep it in a warm place it will not effect the car at all u will loose your radio so i hope u have the lock out code also make sure u have a fresh oil and some thing in the tank like stabil or seafoam or pay a storge place 75 bucks a month for a service like i provide i have cars that have been at my shop for over a year good luck
