Lazy ignition start

my TL-P (2002) has had the stock battery now at a mileage of 65,000 miles. Recently I've noticed that when I turn the key to start the car, the ignition takes longer to start the engine.

I am not sure if this a battery issue. Is the hot weather to blame? How long did the stock battery last for you guys?

does it crank slower?

suj220 07-21-2005 12:53 PM

yeah...the crank is way slower than normal.

Battery problem. Speaking of those, however, I left a maplight on in my TL for 36 hours recently and the battery didn't lose charge at all. The car didn't cut it off, I noticed it when I got back to it - it was still on and hot to the touch.

How many years have you had the stock battery?

fsttyms1 07-21-2005 01:50 PM

Battery problem. mine lasted about 3 1/2-4 years

i was experiencing the same problem but when i swapped out the spark plugs it seemed to have corrected itself.

PenancE 07-21-2005 03:18 PM

how long is long enough to keep the OEM spark plugs in ur car?

Chet03TL-S 07-21-2005 03:43 PM

The plugs are good up to 100k miles.

fsttyms1 07-21-2005 03:46 PM

if you have slow cranking its not plugs. if it cranks the same but takes longer to start its the plugs

fla-tls 07-21-2005 07:43 PM

Yeah (was on other thread) - slow crank is definitely not the key issue.

well i think its time to check out a new battery. Any battery recommendations? I hear good things about OPtima Red Top but...i went to their website and couldnt bring anything up for our TL.

but you'll find one for honda accord. that'll work--just make sure it fits in your battery well. red top's fine unless you're running a/v units that draw a lot of power. i found costco to have the best prices on optima red top.
