laptop interface for obd2

Im looking for software for interfaceing the obd II on my type-s. Well I guess first I sould ask is there any and will it show me real time info. I would like to intergrate my car pc into a touch screen, with an option to view engine conditions, fuel map, so on so forth. Please help if you can. I did a search, found nothing that answers my question.

yea thats sweet.... if you have and n800, but Im looking for a something I can run from a linux or win32 os. I have found some linux stuff, but dont have all the hardware required to keep it from crashing every time I shut the car off. long story, if you know about linux car then you know what Im talking about. the Ideal situation would be a linux kernl that would boot directly to some sort of shell that would have all the stuff that carman has. never the less, Please if you have anything even it it falls in the relm of pc car or linux car let me know.

u can easily have windows boot into any shell. Not sure if you want to use a laptop or a full blown carputer. which ever, mp3car.com has a lot of info in their OBD2 section. heres a link
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/engi...agnostics-etc/

you should be able to find your answer there.

oh yeah, http://moates.net/ is a pretty good site for this type of stuff. i had my civics ecu chipped and converted to usb with that site. they also have a bunch of OBD2 stuff im sure.

wow, There are a lot of good sites and dl's for obd II software. Im going to start a linux build with myth TV. Ill be getting the code from dashpc.com. IM going to try to write a snap in that will show real time obd II data allong with a realtime MPG. This will take a long time. But I thing it will be super cool when I get it done. Ill keep you uptodate, but Please still post to this thread if you come accross some cool download, or source code that I can use. Win 32 or linux based. I can emulate most software in linux. I know this is a car forum, and Im getting a little computer geekie here, but it will be a cool ad on to the guys who have a navi car or one who has a double din tv with touch screen. Post up, help out.

yes. Also going to "hopeing" to build a linux based GUI with touch screen. If you are intrested take a look at www.linuxice.com or www.dashpc.com. Ill be taking the best of both world and compileing a interface that I like. But like I have been playing arround with linux ice and its really cool. but Dashpc has one item I like which is a interface to lock/unlock/pop trunk/and OBDII interface to monitor fuel pressure, engen codes and conditions. The "hardware" will reside in the center console where I can easly access the dvd +rw so I can make music compilations or video comps. I have everything I need except for the 7 inch touch screen. I want to make sure I have the OS and GUI the way I want and that it is stable before I buy one.

but its easier to just use windows xp. TRUST me, its easier and less headaches to configuer to the way you want it. and MOI its kinda pointless to hook up unlock lock etc when you already have them on the door to begin with. make it practical. the engine monitor thing is def a cool thing to do and its very useful.

my carputer boots up in 10-13 seconds from cold boot to the gui interface that i use (roadrunner) with a 1000mhz board with a 3.5 harddrive, and ram is only utilizing 78mb of 512mb. nuthin special.
before you embark on this type of hobby, research on the reason why 90% of people are using xp for their carputers. search for the "minlogon.exe" mod and the "nLite" program.
Xp is way cheaper now due to Vista's outcoming.
there is more support for the xp platform then others. its all up to you.
