KYB Shocks? any good???

I'm about to get replacement shocks/struts on my 99 TL.. the ride's been real rough lately, and driving in boston doesn't help.. my uncle (mechanic) feels that KYB's offer the smoothest ride since they're used in lexuses and infinitis.. anyone have any insight??.. i'm sick of the firmer ride, i want something smoother over those damn boston potholes!!!

How exactly does the harsh ride feel? Does it feel like suddenly you go up on the bump, then theres a sudden drop off and it feels like ur car wheels slam down abruptly? Do you think you can describe it with more detail? I think I may be having the same problem, and Im not sure if its the shocks. Do you have any other signs of shocks goin bad other than the ride quality?

That's interesting, because on the domestic side, KYBs are definitely "low rent" shocks.
I don't even know what our OEM stuff is, but I like Bilstein in general.
And, typically, as a shock fails, it will allow MORE wheel travel, not less. So, the ride ought to feel "sloppy" before it feels too firm.

i actually wondered why kyb shocks are so inexpensive if they're so great.. i mean, lexuses and infinitis are known to be a little smoother on the hard bumps than our tls.. i hear a lot of people complain that our cars ride rough.. by "rough ride" i mean it really feels like it hits every bump hard.. you feel every bump, almost like a sport suspension, but TL-Ps are not supposed to be too firm.. whenever riding in a toyota or nissan i've felt that the ride was softer on the hard bumps.. mine feels like i'm driving a sports car.. i'd rather it feel like a luxury sedan!.. since the kyb's have been used in those luxury companies, i thought i'd give it a try
.. anyone else with some thoughts?
