I just got a K&N filter w/ an icebox. The K&N website states I don't have to clean it for 50,000 miles, but I was wondering if most people actually stick to that? Should I clean it earlier?

Just check it every now and then. Since its not hard to clean i always cleaned mine spring and fall.

You will get maximum performance with a good cleaning every 6 months if you live where the air is just normal dirty.

If you drive thru constuction sites, have air quality alert days where humans are advised not to go outdoors, spend time in traffic etc
then it does not hurt to do it every 3 months.

The kit to clean and refill the oil in the air filter is 10 bucks and is does 5 cleanings

The 50,000 miles is a test bed situation showing the K&N still flows as much at 50K as some brand new paper filters, and more than one with 15,000 of dirt in it for sure!
Since most K&N filters can process nearly double or more flow when clean- DO IT

I also use Airflow Meter spray cleaner on the throttle plate to remove the little dirt or oil that may have sucked off the filter. More gentle to delicate parts than carb clean.
Simply remove the rubber intake hose from airfilter box to air meter, spray into opening, open throttle and spray more, wipe with cloth is able, replace parts, start engine, runs rough thenclears out. Clean seal area on throttle plate makes car run better.
Did the r&r neg batery cable to reset the computer so it learns the new flow.


Rotate the tires, clean the filter or
Replace House Smoke Detector Batteries- Clean K&N
thats spring and fall folks- those things save lives, and
the lack of them causes loss of life.
