Just raced my "S" for the very first time...

Nothing too big guys. Cliff notes at the bottom. But, the "S" isnt a "virgin" anymore!

Well, it all started when I was wanting to find a way to make the car sound louder, the same way my old CAI did on my V6 Accord. It sounded really awesome. But without spending a buttload. After some research and comparative reviews off this site, I realized the most affordable was by a drop in K&N filter and the removal of the stock resonator, from the bottom of the airbox. So thats what i set about doing.

Go over to my brother house and get started. While there i meet up with one of my buddies i used to work with. Hes got a 1998 Maxima 5-speed with intake, b-pipe, cat back exhaust, and a gutted interior. Just a drivers seat and dash, nothing else.

Anyways we shoot the breeze and talk a while, i tell him i just got her broke in and have yet to race. He asks if i want to run em, so i oblige and off we go.

We drive over to the dead end road in front of my building and line them up at the stop sign. I tell him to go on three honks. I put the car in SS mode, turn off the VSA, and start a small brake tourqe. Not much though, just a little. Honk three times and were off! I spin tire for a split second and then grab and im outa the hole. Hes still behind me spinnin tire. Meanwhile im honkin along thru first, upshift to second and keep it buried. Hes finally got traction but behind me by about 3 car lengths. He finally gets going and makes up a little ground, but not much. I wind thru 2nd and tap the shifter forward right at 7000 and hit 3rd. Hes no longer gaining and im about 2 1/2 cars ahead no and pullin. Wind out 3rd and step on the brakes with me about 3 cars ahead.

We stop and he asks to ago again, he didnt get a good launch. We line up again, he gets a better launch this time, but i STILL beat him out of the hole. But he stays with me alot better than the first time. Im about a car length in front of him now and winding thru 2nd. Shift to third and an im pullin him now. Now im 2 cars in front and pullin. Shut it down after the shift to 4th. Me, about 2 1/2 cars ahead.

HEHEHEHE! I love this car.

Get back to my brothers place and he helps me remove the resonator. Takes about 30 minutes and now the cars sounds just plain mean.

So, The S is now "officially" broken in. Chalk one up for the Type S.

Cliff notes: A 98 5-speed maxima with intake, b-pipe, exhaust and no interior tried the "S", and lost twice!

Nice job and a thrill a seconds I'm sure.

BTW - I thought break-in was what you did after driving off the show room floor.
