I just finished with my "go faster" mods. I did...

-INJEN CAI
-UR pulley
-Comptech axle-backs
-DC Sports headers

in that order

Do the Comptechs last IMO!

I swear, my 99 with a CAI is faster than my stock 02TLS... The tranny sucks in this 02. Damn!

I'm gonna get around to doing another CAI on my new TL, or perhaps an icebox instead!

Not at all. I can tell the difference from a stop, as in torque difference, but if I'm doing 70mph on the freeway, and I want to speed up or pass somebody, and I floor the car, it will drop down into like 4th gear and putter along and take 2-4 seconds to get to 80-85. Pisses me off. I miss my 4 speed!

I didn't mean to hijack this thread, so let me attempt to get back on topic here about the CAI, how much different would it be installing it on my Type S now, opposed to the way I did it on my 99? I dont know if there would be any more crap to take out. At least the air cleaner wouldn't have the radiator part to it!

If you have fog lights, you will have to buy the Injen brand CAI. It is not a short ram, so the filter is right behind the bumper. I didn't want to mess with taking the bumper off, as per the instructions, so I had it done by a shop. Works great.

Not true, my AEM CAI fit fine behind my foglights, it is a snug fit, but no problem. And taking the bumper off is not neccesary to installing a CAI. You only have to remove one lower panel in front of the tire.

As far as the INJEN CAI...do it yourself! Save yourself some $$$ You don't have to remove the bumper. It will take you no more than an hour if you have the right tools, and you read a DIY. You can buy the AEM or the INJEN or any other that is stated for your car. It doesn't matter if you have fogs. There are many members who installed either with fogs and had no problems. I personally like the way the INJEN looks over the AEM, plus there haven't been any complaints about the bracket breaking on the INJEN. Anyway here it is the DIY without removing the bumper...

true there is a massive amount of space from the bumper to the CAI. plenty of room for foglights. IMO.

well on that note though, I wont get around to doing the CAI until later this spring I am sure, but I need to take my bumper off anyways so I can re-align it and take the gap between the PAX headlight and bumper out. I'd rather do it all at once. Especially if its just me doing the install, it can be a pain in the butt to get the bumper on by myself.

the bumper is really easy prob will take 5-10 min. just do it. its extremely simple. i took my bumper off to do it. people make such a big deal about it. but it just about falls off when you want it too. two screws and prob about 10-15 little pop locks. simple

Well then, AEM needs to change their application guide and also tell their customer service reps that it will work.

maybe the fog lights are really really deep but even then the filter sits off to the side. i just dont see how it would. i hear that the Injen sits closer to the bumper but i have yet to see one in person to be able to tell.

I've had both an AEM and Injen CAI. I got my AEM quite a while ago and had problems fitting it in behind the fogs. I ended up cutting out about 1 inch and installed the bypass valve. It fit fine after that. The only reason that I switched to Injen was because the bypass valve cracked and I didn't want one in the first place so I just went with the Injen. The filter for the AEM sits directly behind the foglight with the filter facing forward. The filter for the Injen faces down and does not come as close to the bumper as the AEM did. I personally like the fitment and mounting for the Injen better but I guess they are about the same.
