Angry Just great.....

Again - as most of you know, after I got my car back from the body shop, it began overheating. So they replaced the thermostat, but the damn thing did it again. Took it back on friday, and found out I need a new engine. I have a cracked head gasket or something, and apparently they just dont repair it, they put a whole new engine in. this is really pissing me off, because the insurance company is going to fight me about it, and I dont have the time to deal with it because I'm in college in another state. this is just really pissing me off. Anyone had this problem, or heard of anyone having this problem and had an estimate of what it would cost to fix?!?!?! And by the way, what the hell is a head gasket?

the head gasket broke on our mini vans and they were able to fix it for around 1000 done. this is the gasget between the head and the engine but in order to replace it u basically have to take apart the entire engine. but from what i kno it can be replaced

.. sounds like b/s to me. I'm pretty sure that the head gasket can be replaced w/o putting in a new engine.

the head gasket is a gasket between the head and the block. (VERY IMPORTANT) the repair all depends on weather there is damage or not. if all that is wron is the gasket you can just replace it. if the head got warped due to the overheating then you are looking at a good chunk of money to repair. if the head isnt warped (no way to know with out pulling off) then all you would need is a gasket

Be as careful as you can with the gasket as you remove it so it can be read. This means looking for signs of where the exhaust passed from and to. The head should be worked while you have it off. A shop should do a pressure check and check for warpage and trenching by the hot gas. Take the gasket to a shop for them to examine also. If you had water/steam from the exahust pipe you will need to check for steam erosion in the chambers with leakage.
