Smile Just bought my new 03 TL-S and have a quaestion

I am the proud owner of an 03 TL-S, Pearl White, Non-Navi. Due to family practicalities, I had to give up my 99 Boxster. So far I love the car. For a 5 person sedan, it handles well and engine is great. Actually, its much faster than my Boxster was from 0-40.

Here is the question. Since day 1 (have 2,000 miles now), I have noticed an occassional vibration through the gas pedal. I can feel it through my shoes or sneakers. Sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not. Feels most pronounced until about 30 MPH, them it lessens, but its still there.

I have read about all the tranny problems, and so far, mine seems ok, but when cold, shifts are definitally rougher. Its never Lexus smooth, buts its acceptable.

Any clue as to the vibration?

Thanks.

Maybe a wheel out of balance?

Easy thing is to check to make sure the wheels are seated properly and the lugs are torqued properly. I would jack up each side, take the wheel off, reseat and torque each wheel lug to 80 lbs. Torque them in a star pattern.

Thanks. Maybe, but there are no vibrations or shakes through the steering wheel and the car is tracking fine. I was thinking maybe an engine mount? I can feel the vibration even when the car is not moving. Does this car have a mechanical throttle or is it an electronic system (e.g., Porsche E-Gas).

I have the same problem with my car, its a slight vibration that can only be felt in the gas pedal at certain speeds. I read somewhere that the TL suspension is known to vibrate on certain road surfaces. Not sure if that is true or not.

Interesting. At least I am not the only one with this problem. I will ask the dealer (Ralley in Roslyn) about it when I bring in the car for its first oil change in a few weeks. I will post any info I get.

Maybe the car is so much faster than your Boxster that your legs started to shake.

If you feel some vibration through the gas pedal, you might want to check wheel balance.
If you feel some vibration when braking, that's definitely brake pads & rotors.

Take it to the dealer.

it's not normal. it's an issue with your brakes that will get worse as time goes on. Get the roters resurfaced, if you wait too long you may end up having to buy new ones.

I think Midas and other shops will give you a brake exam for free

Vibration

I too feel vibration in the gas pedal especially when car shifts from 2 to 3 and to 4. The dealer says it is my imagination but I know it is there. Just bought the car and had an RL which didn't have this problem.

It can't be the tranny because mine is brand new.

Ok you are saying that the vibration is on the gas pedal and not on the steering wheel, I'm almost sure is not the balance. You can check if any part of the cable is rubbing against an engine part, I think this will cause your problem but since is new take it to the dealer to see if they can figure it out, good luck on that.
