JiffyLube tried to screw me over

I brought my car it's 30,000 mile maintenance 7,500 miles ago, so I brought my car to JiffyLube to get an oil change today. The guy there tried to claim my transmission fluid needed to be changed, and that they'd do it for $80. I said no, I had it done 7,500 miles ago, but he insisted it was dirty. I took a look at the fluid - it was fine. I wouldn't have bothered going there but I read in the owners manual that you need a special wrench to get access to the oil filter, and I didnt have time to go get one from the dealer. Do you actually need the wrench to change the oil filter?

No special wrench needed. Just a bit of elbow grease and twist the filter off.

For a transmission filter change...???? havnt done that yet...
For an ENGINE oil change... its too easy..
special oils filter wrench...yes
from the dealer...no
I remember one time when I could not get the filter of my old Firebird...
Drove a screw driver through the filter and torqued it off....
You can get a cup like adapter from wal-mart.... to fit on your 3/8" drive ratchet.
or
get a Channel-lock filter pliers... best 20.00 bucks i ever spent.
Have fun

I went to Jiffy Lube and they stripped the head on my oil plug.

The guy told me there was a problem that the head had been stripped. It was the first oil change on the car that I hadn't done so I knew there was nothing wrong with the head. They probably didn't use the right size and stripped it. Took it to the dealer and they replaced it and changed oil.

Never, ever go to Jiffy Lube with your TL or any other classy car.

Many of the guys there know less and are less interested in cars than we are.

If you are talking about a transmission fluid filter - there is none.

The 5 speed automatic acura transmission does not have a replaceable filter.

If you're talking about the oil filter, look under your passenger-side front bumber - near the suspension linkages. It's a standard size, and one of the easiest filters to change I've ever encountered on a car I've owned.

Just turn you wheels to the right and you'll have more room to work with getting the filter out. Just use your hand. dont have to waste money on any tools.

Jiffylube is a big . I wouldn't even trust them with my bicycle.

For an oil filter, yes you do need a special wrench (it will make it 100x easier). But you can buy that wrench at any of your local auto shops like Pep Boys, R&S Strauss, etc.

For the tranny fluid, it is a regular bolt. It takes like 5 minutes to change so you can save $hitload of $$$ and do it yourself.

you are wrong on the tranny. The racket on the wrench 3/8 inch fits inside the bolt.

i actually have no complaints about my jiffy lube..for $25 oil and filter it costs only a lil bit more than me doin it myself. as for the tranny fluid that $80 is a rip off...i think ull have to provide ur own ATF fluid too b/c i doubt they use Honda ATF

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking about another bolt.

You guys should know these are kids you're dealing with or inexperience technician, not mechanic. I never go to these places for oil change, I do it myself. They don't even have the drain plug washer to replace. The only thing I will let them lube is my tire sidewall with armorall.

You will? They might lube the entire tire and send you off flying
