Lightbulb Jet-Hot Heat Coating for Headers.

Take a look at this website and tell me what you guys think:
www.jet-hot.com

One of the V6 Accord people in Houston, TX is planning on having this done with her CompTech headers. I imagine it would look pretty sweet if nothing else, and since she shows her car, she is in a win/win situation. The coating is supposed to help reduce heat from the headers, blah blah... but it also has a guaranty against chipping, cracking, discoloration etc.

This girl already removed her own intake manifold and sent it to a shop to have it chromed, and then installed it back on her car by herself! (My kinda girl but she already has a man) DOH! Hehehe

Check out her manifold: http://windsrprk.home.mindspring.com/manifold.html

A lot easier is to just get jackets for your headers. These will also work for OEM manifolds.

The idea is that you put an insulated "jacket" around each pipe, and they just snap shut. I guess they're filled with asbestos or something?

A lot cheaper than Jet-Hot, which has been around for quite a while. Probably more effective, too, but not 1/2 as cool looking.

Couldn't take more than 1/2 hour of personal labor, even for the most novice installers. I forget who makes these things, but I'm sure they're easy to find. Maybe I'll do a search and post my findings for all you gearheads out there!

Looks good, but does it cost more than the actual pieces you plan on applying it too?

Gomez,

Unfortunately, thermal wraps, or header jackets will void the warranty on most manufactures headers.

CompTech will not honor your warrenty if you use thermal wraps or header jackets.

Also the price of the coating is under $200 from what she told me. Roughy $180 if my memory serves me correctly.

Do the wraps void the Acura warranty on OEM exhaust manifolds, do you know?

And I wonder why they void the aftermarket headers' warranty... prone to melting!?! I could see how it might be bad for the cat, as gasses would be hotter coming out...

Very curious, indeed.

The header wraps will literally cook the metal and cause it to develop cracks. Racers will usually wrap the headers because of the benefits, but they have to replace the header at the end of the season because it will be falling apart. Coatings such as Jet Hot or HPC should be ok to use, but we haven't done any durability testing with it.
