Jack Points

I'm just curisous what you guys found were the best places to jack up the car. Obviously the jack points that are indicated are the best, but I like to jack it up, and set it down on jack stands when I work. So I need to jack it up from one place, and put the stand under another solid point.

When I changed my oil yestarday I wound up putting the jack just ahead of the little lip where the indicated jack point is (right behind the mudflap on the front wheels) and was just able to slip the jack stand in under the lip of the real jack point. It was solid enough to lift the car from, but the jack (small 2 ton hydraulic jack, not the factory scissor jack provided) left a little dent in the underbody (nothing serious, but not something I would not like to repeat if I can avoid it).

Just wondering if anyone came up with a better way....

Thanks,
Dave

1) Use a 2 x 4
2) Why not jack from the front and rear points - there is a metal lip under the front crossomember in front of the oil pan, and you jack the rear up underneath the wheel wheel for the spare where the tow hook is

Why not jack from the front and rear points
