J32A2 and J32A3 power differences
The J32A3 was rated at 270 HP in 2004 and it was revised latter to 258 HP. Did the new SAE way of mesuring HP affected the rating of J32A2s that are rated at 260 HP or not ?
This question has botherd me for too long, please clear my mind.

yes. the j32a3 and the j32a2 have the same power output according to the SAE ratings. the j32a3 has a new code because of the cast manifold that is built into the heads. smaller things were changed like the characteristics of the heads but the overall assembly is the same
the j32a2 has 10.5:1 compression
the j32a3 has 11:1 compression so mods tend to yield higher gains.
however, the j32a2 with headers shows pretty big gains that the 32a3 will never show.
32a3 has drive by wire and the j32a2 is cable driven which is more sought after in boost application due to the ease of tuning.
if you want to run a j32a3 you MUST use a drive by wire ECU and those ecus check for everything under the hood down to the headlights so be prepared to spend more money thats unnneeded

Thats exactly my point. When SAE rating come into effect, they told honda to revise their ratings. They said your engine that you claim at 270 HP is in reality pushing out 258 HP. I presume HMC tested their engines the same way in 2004+ that they did in 2003. So if Honda's initial testing were not accurate in mesuring power in 2004+ engines then it should have been the samething in 2003. Hence J32A2s should be rated at 248 HP according to new SAE system of calculation. Or maybe im missing something ?

and part of the reason for doing that and such with coming out with the SAE ratings is too try and put everybody on a level playing field as far as power rating goes and such, because some manufactures where a little more liberal with the ratings and such then others, let alone adding that little bit of umpph to it while testing (such as feeding a little colder air to it)

Best way to solve this is to put an 02-03 type s and a 04-08 base TL-P auto on a dyno and compare the HP output :p
