Post I've defected......

Hey guys,

I haven't posted much on this site, but about a month ago I was trying to decide on whether to get a TL Type S, an Audi A4 or an I30t. After seeing the pics of the Type S, I wasn't too happy with the grill and new headlights (though they could probably be changed), plus we already have a 2000 TL, so I thought it would be wierd to have 2 of the same car. As for the I30t, it was sort of like an older person's car (I'm only 18), plus it doesn't match up to the TL. The other day though, i test drove an A4 1.8t w/Quattro and the thing handled like a beauty. We put a deposit down on a black on black A4 w/quattro and some other stuff....this is the first car of the 5 in the past 9 years that hasn't been an Acura. In a way I sort of feel like a traitor, but I'll always be an Acura lover at heart. I'm still gonna hang around though, cuz I'm plannin on moddin the TL for my mom, she's a real ricegirl

It's "CHOW-DAIR".

Well, I looked at an A4 when I was searching for a new car, so I can't fault you too much. Must be nice to have to pay extra for an automatic transmission, heated sets, HID headlights, etc. Who would want all that standard on their new car.

j/k Good Luck

Yeah, and if my mommy and daddy were buyin me a car, I wouldn't complain..

Or, on the off chance he has a big enough allowance or a job where he can afford the payments, he knew what he was getting when he put down a deposit.

Give the kid a break

I like souped up VW's, I mean Audi's, too.

Good for you! A4 is nice, just too small for my needs....love the S4 (If I were still young and single!) Still in love with the A6 2.7T.....if you can talk them into the S4, you get the same engine and 5.9 0-60 times with the manual! But, thats about 38-40K$ nicely outfitted. Good luck in college man...work hard and get the grades, believe me, it will be worth it to you in the long run. And oh yeah, have fun with the Audi, they're great cars!

Hey Chowder, just to let you know that Audi will release a All New A4 as an 2002 model sometime in March or April of this year. If is not too late to get the deposit back, I will hold off for a while. If not, you will definitely going to regret about it.

I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND I WANTED SOME THIHNG QUICK TO PLAY WITH A LL THOSE RICED UP CIVICS. IT TOOK A EVERYDAY RIDE PAST A SHOP THAT HAD A RED CL-S ON HIS LOT. LOVED THAE CAR SO MUCH, THAT I WENT OUT AND GOT IT A MONTH LATA.

You leached off your parents!?! Damn, I'm 18 too and I saved up since I was 15 to by a new car since my first car, a 80 Mercedes 300CD, brok down and was too expensive to repair. I got my car with a nice 50% down payment upfront and loaned the rest out. . By the time it comes down for me to transfer to a university, the car will be paided for . BTW, I was also a good student like yourself (Maybe not that good, I had a 3.4 GPA and was going to a private school). Anyways, I decided I would not waste my parents money the first two years of college partying and trying to decide what the hell I wanted to major in and then evenually get kicked out of college because I didn't take school seriously like my brother did. So I decided to play it safe and go to community until I knew what I wanted to major in. I could have easily got into a University and got a scholarship because I am hispanic, but again, I wanted to play it safe. I also pay my ridiculous insurance premium as well, something I hope you never will pay since you are getting a Audi 1.8T. If I was your parents, I would have gotten you a GTI instead. I got my Accord because my father requested to get a AUTO tranny since we both drive it and I like big cars. Plus, it was cheaper to insurance compared to a Prelude, Solara, Passat, a Jetta VR6. My father also really pushed me into getting the EX V-6 as well.

A4 quattro is a nice car, a littlle small, but nice. I would have preferred the 2,8 in a manual, but I am certain the 1.8T does its job well and will serve you well. I just wish that Acura would come out with a TL-X & CL-X(4wd), now THAT would be SWEET!

I say go for the S4 if your parents are paying for it, plus the interior is already done for you. You said that that yall already have a TL, its not bad having two in the family. For example me and my dad have matching silver TL's, pics will be posted soon!

Howdy,

Why do I get the feeling a lot of people despise me? Regarding the questions with the S4, its way too much and I think you all know that. There's a huge difference between 28k and 40k+.
As for the car itself, I admit it is a bit small, and I wish it had a bit more power, but I think its a pretty sharp lookin car. Hell, if I really don't like it, I'll trade off cars with my parents once in a while.

chowder congrats on the audi A4 purchase... I am considering the A4, the TL-S, or possible the IS 300,, does anyone have any feedback on any.. I am sure you guys recommend the TL but I haven't kept up with the total specs on it.. I saw the intro video and all thanks to my good friend BlackTL. I just got rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and feel I definitely need to get back in a car. Thanks for your time guys..

Good choice, I love the Quattro. I wouldn't be able to live with the 1.8T. Originally I was planning on getting a 2.8 and putting a PES supercharger in there (300hp). I heard that's the company that makes the S4/Porsche Twin Turo, Turbos. However the S4 would have been a better choice because the 2.7L engine could handel the extra pressure easier, since its just the 2.8L engine, with 0.1 ml of coating inside for extra support.

My next car might be an Audi. I'm pretty sure it won't be the new '02 TL. I would love to save up like 5 years, and get a 2000 Mercedes CL500 when they are 5 years old. I was in love with them, they day they came out.

If you want more power, get a GTI or Jetta 1.8T instead. You'll save your parents some money and maybe they will let you get the ECU upgrade as well.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!

I own an A4 quattro along with my MDX. I was SO disappointed with the quality of this "German Built" car. Yes, beautiful car, very fun, handles like a slot car. BUT I had to take it to the dealer over 10 times for (luckily) warranty work. Now that the warranty is over, my sunroof doesn't work. This will be a hefty repair bill since they need to take the roof liner out!

Would I buy another? NO. Just check the forums for A4s, they all have problems. I'm sticking with the Japanese brands. No problems with the Honda's, Toyota's, and Nissan's that I have owned.

DON'T DO IT!!

Just my 2 cents. I was actually looking for A4 parts when I stumbled on your forum. Loved the TL but I needed the 3rd row of my MDX. Waited 3 months and was worth it!! Go Acura!

I dont know if you took into consideration that this is the last year of the current generation for the A4s. So next year you would already have a generation old car. I love the styling of the current generation and the pictures of the new A4s are iffy and doesnt appeal to me that much(yet). But just the fact the in a year(maybe even less) it wouldn't be a current generation model, would bother me.

just my $.02

Hmm. I don't think that line would have worked on my parents. I also got roughly $50k in scholarship money for college. Looks like they need to buy me a $50,000 car like an S4!
Nope, I got nothing but the old family station wagon.

Seriously though, the A4 is a good car that I also considered purchasing before I decided on my TL. You'll like your new car, I'm sure. Don't mind the fact that the seats are leather"ette".

Like someone else mentioned there will be an all new A4 in 2002. I would wait if possible. When you do get that Audi make sure to get the extended warranty as well I was browsing the Audi user site awhile back and read about some serious defects some owners were complaining about. That's my 2 bits.

Theres a substantial difference between the 1.8 and the 2.8 in power. I found the 1.8 woefully underpowered after driving the TLS. If you can afford the extra $'s I would spring for the 2.8 Quattro. You get bigger tires too & an improved interior too. Another thing .... the new A4 is out in a couple of months. Completely redesigned exterior (similar to the A6) new engine, improved transmission. Don't mean to put adampner on your purchase ... what you have now is a good car regardless. Its just that if you wait a little longer or spend a few more $'s you would have a better car.

just thought you should know ....

Dang, when I got a scholarship to Stern my parents told me they would get me a car too. I wanted a new corvette back then (1988) I went to the dealer I found a sweet canary yellow 1987 left-over for only $23,000. Took my dad to the dealership so he can buy it for me and he told me "Are you f'n crazy??? I ain't getting you no corvette" DOH!!!

Good luck, the A4 is a great car.
