Its official, the S2000 univ. platform to bbe used on the next civic models like 4th

Honda announced today and was picked up in a few Honda boards that they plan on using the S2000 universal body for future Civic models that will be using the 2.0 liter mounts using the current IVTEC versions found for example in the RSX. It sounds like they will start with the return of the CRX/del Sol, the 4th generation that will kind of be a mix. This would be a 2 seater. Later, there will be a 4 seat coupe and sedan that will be RWD and talk of an AWD.

I think it will be a LONG while if even Honda will come out with RWD for Acura. We heard from the Executives before that they aren't depending on V8 or RWD to be competitive or sucessful.

I think the move for the Civic to use the S2000 platform is to save money on production cost. Why have 2 seperate platform when you can use 1? The S2000 RWD is already setup and working, they don't need to spend more money on R&D.

I doubt that the TL will ever reach RWD. The TL and Accord share the same platform and the 03 Accord is still FWD, and for the next 5 years the TL will probably be FWD also. Acura Flagship, RL is whimmpier than the TL. The only other Honda/Acura to have RWD is the NSX, but i highly doubt that they will incorporate that into the RL or TL.

I vision that Honda/Acura is working for the long run. Electric/Hybrid/Fuel Cell cars will be phased in sooner or later, Honda wants to do it sooner. The technology is mature enough to mass produce, the only problem is marketing it to the consumers. Not alot of ppl would buy a Hybrid Civic with 85HP, 51 MPG, $19,500 over the regular 1.7 liter Civic with 115HP, 38MPG, $12,800. There is NO incentive or Advantage of buying a hybrid unless ur a tree hugging hippy.

If a gallon of regular unleaded gas cost $2.08 (Here in So Cal), and you drove 50 per day....in 10 Years you will only be saving $2,500. You will have to drive a Hybrid around 25 years to make up for the money you save in gas to brake even...So what's the POINT?!?!!? It's POINTLESS!!!!!

Thank goodness cause the current Civic drives and handles like crap compared to the previous model. The previous model looked better too.
