ITG GSR & 90-94 accord loses to mah TL

last night we went up to Sonic's, n some of the gas stations on OBT, to cops had busted like 40 cars at Hess for loitering, b/c they were all like ur reace car types, cops were everywhere, so after Hess, we were goin to the Florida mall, i was on Sand lake, n OBT goin toward I-drive, it was a three line, next to me i had a the 94 or under accord, it was hooked up appearence wise from what i could see, don't know bout the engine, next to him was a boy, he had a ITG GSR, w/ intake n a exhast, my boy jordan just talking S%&* to the man in da accord, he was wit his girl...both of them had two people in their car, my car was packed wit 5.......light turns green, i smoke my tires n i get the good start, i'm a bout 3/4 or 1 car ahead of the accord n bout 1 n 1/2 in for the TEG, i'm still ridin 2nd gear at like 5k rpm, n then i could see the accord shift n start to fade back, i rode 3rd to bout 80, now it looked like they gave up, so i quit, dang i was happy, we were all hyped up, that's it, sorry bout the long post n going off the subject, i was messed up last night, i just got home at 8 in a moring

In 3rd doing 80? You should get on the wait list for the tranny now

Thats cool though. Glad to hear you smoked a GSR. I hope the comptech SC makes a big difference in our cars. I think that should put us in the same category as GS 400 and A6.

I am assuming you have a regular TL and did not use SS, right? Cause I use SS in my 99 TL and I got up to ~122 mph in 3rd.

BTW, good kills.

??? 3rd in 80 is so normal to me.

remember, our 3rd is capable of doing 110 on TL and almost 120 on TLS. i have done it before on my TLS, so it's not that special having 80 on 3rd.

80 in 3rd isn't so bad. 122 in 3rd however, are you sure! I can see 122 in 4th with out really pushing to hard, but 3rd??????? Come on!

I was testing 2nd out today cuz I pretty much know my 3rd well and this is what I came up with.

I can ride my 2nd gear all the way up to 70 untill it starts hitting the rev limiter, so just to be safe, I'll upshift it at 65 from now on. From 3rd, you cannot downshift to 2nd unless you are under 60, so if you really want to do some major highway racing, wait till you're under 60MPH then shift to 2nd to really suprise them.

With 3rd gear, you cannot downshift from 4th unless you are under 80MPH. It seems as if I could carry my 3rd all the way up to 120, but like I said before, just to be safe, I'll set my personal limit to 115.

4th gear, well...lets hope the race is over by then :p

BTW, the reason why I even started becomming curious about 2nd is that I was toying with my G/F today on her way home (she drives an RSX) and at every light I would cut her off to the point where every time we would stop at a light, she would try harder and harder to not get cut off. I spent pretty much most of my time in 1st and 2nd, since it was mostly city driving. I couldn't really test out the limitations of 2nd untill the freeway though. But it was pretty cool flashing my hazards at an RSX (even though she was my G/F).

120 in 3rd

rominl,

I'm sure you guys are right I'll have to check it out. I've never gone that fast while using the SS. I raced a BMW on the PA Turnpike NE extension and had it up to 135, but that was on full auto. I also had it over 120 a couple of other times, but it was always in full auto. I much more enjoy racing around corners with the SS on a curvey road. Don't normally get to 120 on curvey roads! Ask me some questions about the limits of the cars cornering ability and I can tell you.

Oh crap...I KNOW 2002-Silver-TLS is right on this one, I just came back from my G/F's house and I DOUBLE checked the upper limits of 2nd and 3rd gear and let me tell you...I'M WRONG! what I mentioned before about 2nd still holds, but with 3rd I was completely off! I floored it at 3rd using SS and hit the rev limiter at 110, and yes, you can downshift to 3rd from 4th above 80 BUT it has to be below 85, its somewhere in between, but downshifting while cruising at 80 is perfectly fine, you dont have to wait to fall below it. As for my G/F...how do you guys even know what she looks like? I never showed anyone a pic and the only time anyone has seen her is in the last meet down in Mercado AMC 20. I'd assume only V-Perkins or Edub-TL would even notice her, everyone else was too busy looking at moonmaster's UFO intake.

P.S. She drives the non-typeS

Bah bah bah! I hate it when I post crap to later find out that I'm wrong! Sorry bout the previous post.

So what now?

You can downshift to 2nd at 60...ride it till 70 (but youll hit the rev limiter...so I suggest riding 2nd to only 65)

You can downshift to 3rd at 80...ride it till 110 (Rev limiter again, so I'll play it safe and only push it to 105).

upper limits of 4rth gear? well...I'm not crazy enough for that, so you're all on yer own :p

umm...... i still stand by my side. i swear i have hit 120mph before at 3rd. could weather be a factor? inclined? see, when i ride from san jose to los angeles, i noticed that accelerate easier going back but harder coming back (and gas mileage when going back is better than coming back too), indicating i am going uphill when coming back. in that case i think it would be harder to hit 120mph at 3rd.

and i think road condition also affect your speed too. in the past i have hit the limit at 115mph or so, so i think it could affect something too.

and edgalang, i did pay attention to your gf although i came sooooo late i still paid attention to everyone

Well all I'm saying is try it again sometime, and report back...right or wrong. I just tried it 2 hours ago heading west on 580 and hit the rev limiter on 110. I was like so I ran to my comp to edit my post. And are you sure you got the right girl dude? There was this other asian girl with glasses on that looked pretty darn cute (She was with a CL guy).

120 in 3rd

I was making my statment based upon what I've seen the car do when I have been pushing it with SS. When I've done that the engine is pretty much screaming in 3rd at like 95, so that is why I questioned 120.

One qustion I do have that could be the difference here is are all of your cars 2002 TLSes? Maybe the TLS can make it to 120 in third due to the tweaks but the standard TL can't?

Thoughts?

edgalang, i am sure i know which girl is your gf. you were sitting inside with vincent at in and out right? hehe, before he sat down with you i was talking to him remember when you two were getting the car me and my gf was leaving and we said bibi to you?

and yeah i also saw the other girl, i was actually right beside her out of the in and out hey, are you saying my gf is not cute? j/k, i was late, so probably no one even remember how i look

2002-Silver-TLS, your car is TL or TLS?!?! if it's a TL then i think 110 is the max at third. a lot of people can't break that limit. and our TLS would be able to go higher.

Remember, I have a 99 TL with only 4 gears. That's probably why I can pull 3rd gear all the way to ~122 mph.

BTW, if you ever come up to northern NJ, give me a holler. I'll give you a ride in my TL and test out my 3rd gear. :p

99 Trans vs. TLS Trans

BlackShadow,

I figured that what the issue must be. My TLS has 5 gears and I'm sure the ratios are very different. Makes sense.

As far as a trip up there, I was planning to attempt to come up to the Hackensack Taco Bell meet tomorrow but then I found out it was at 4:00pm. I don't think I can make that. You planning to go to that meet?

Transmissions

rominl,

Sorry I didn't reply to this one the last post, I missed your post. Yes my car is a 2002 TL Type S. The post above this one should show the specifics in the signature.
I've been dropping the signature on follow up posts to reduce bandwidth needs for others when reading them.

Is that meet even still on?
Either way I can't make it.

But if you're ever up north, let me know so we can chill.

MEET

Thought the meet was still on, but in any case I can't make it.

Will keep you in mind if I get up that way anytime soon. I'd love to see your and the others cars.

hey, you do you know anyone with the Comptech Headers? Are they really worth the money and effort to get them installed?

I know quite a few guys with headers and they all said it was worth it. But let me ask you something. Are you a speed demon? If so then get the headers because you will be flying once VTEC engages. But if you don't like to speed a lot then save your $$$ because it is a little over $1000 (this is not chump change) and because it is only useful after 5000+ rpm's when VTEC is engaged.

Personally, I can't wait to get it.

Comptech Headers

BlackShadow,

Hey I live between 5k and 7k on the tach! I love that sound and surge when the vtech kicks in. Between the AEM CAI and the Comptech exhaust, it pure music. In fact while coming home from Ice Hockey tonight I was doing a few full throttle runs and when you've got it floored from a dead stop it screams quickly to the 7k red line and then spends almost the full time going between 5k and 7k as it works through the gears. If the headers can provide the said 30 extra HP in that range it could be a real kick in the 1/4 mile times. I don't know if it would really help 0 to 60 but the 1/4 mile should drop a bit and the speed through the quarter should be up a bit.

I think I'm going to go get them. I should have my Comptech Sways delivered on Monday. So I'm getting there.

Can't wait for the supercharger to be released.

30hp is for the TL-s right, i think our regTL-Ps get 18hp, not positively sure, so dont raise hell on me, i was just wondering, what would be the improvements on our 1/4 mile times, for headers only, then CAI only then for both, do exhasts really help, i heard that it has to be a cat back for our car to see hp gains.
