intake or filter?

So i was told that i can remove my resonator and drop in a high flow filter and it can substitute for an intake? How do i remove my resonator in the first place and where do i put the filter? are the filters the ones i see for sale on this site?

I thought you got a short ram. Are you the same as rayman009?

You are correct. Do a search and you will find how to remove the resornator and lots of other info.

Removing the resonator allows more fresh air to comes in. AEM is basically a metal tube with a cone filter sticks down where the resonator resides. So if you remove the resonator, fresh air will go into your stock airbox. But if you decide to install the AEM, resonator must go out anyways...so either way it gotta go. Get my drift?

so who here recommends removing the resonator and putting in filters? any disavantages?

it is a good mod and a helluva lot cheaper than buying a $150-240 intake. Just try it out and if you dont like it buy a metal tube. That way you'd only be losing around $50 I dont know how i could drive the TL before when the resonator was still there, with it removed and filter, it sounds 100X better.

I've had both setups and quite frankly, I have to say that I like the stock intake with a high flow drop-in filter and no resonator. With a shortram intake, I lost some low end torque, but more high end power, milage stayed relatively the same as stock. With the stock intake+k&n drop-in+no resonator, I lost the high end gain of open filter intake, but got more torque back below 2500rpm which is more suitable for street driving. The most amazing part is the milage increase with the filter on the highway. I drove for over 50 miles last time before the gauge dropped under the first tick! This is on an Accord V6, but the results should be similiar with a TL.

I'll say filter, CL 6speed pipe and type S airbox. You should be able to get the type S box for free at an acura dealer, from the people that buy intakes and throw the box away.

I modded my OEM airbox and put in the K&N drop in and I love it. Total cost 50 dollars, the sound is great and the power gains are just as good as getting a short ram or CAI. I highly recommend it, although obviously it doesn't look as pretty as an aftermarket intake, but I kinda like the sleeper look anyways.

Talking

It's down in your bumper, right below the intake box. take off your front bumper, unscrew it, put the bumper back on.......pretty simple.......and cheap

I would go with the intake. You do lose some low end torque...but make up mid to high end. Besides the VTEC sound is addicting! Also check out this interesting test conducted by BNut...this may or may not help in your decision, but at the least...it is worth reading...

I'd go with BadazzTL's advice...try removing the resonator first and adding the drop in filter, and if don't like it, then you can easily sell the filter and get the new intake. I personally have the OEM setup with drop-in filter and no resonator...I like it very much.

how is the noise level without the resonator compared to when it was in there? any interior noise from removing it?

There was a slight interior noise level increase with the resonator removed, but it is very slight and you will quickly get used to it. Noise was my biggest issue because I wanted it to stay quiet. It is more noticeable with the windows down or when you are revving the engine, but it sounds kind of sweet at that level. It is a real quick mod to do, so if you think it's too loud, then you can change it back. I think you'll like it...

but if what t-rd said is true, then i'd rather put in an intake cuz i want more high-end power. what would happen if i only took out the resonator and left it like that without a drop-in filter??

if you were to not put a filter in, then your engine will begin to to mix dust, air, and fuel together in your engine, and that won't be a good thing.

oh yeah doh! nevermind stupid question:p
but yeah i think i'm still leaning towards putting in an intake instead...need more power!

You want power...get a CAI or shortram. Keep in mind that if you just use a filter, you are still using the stock pipes. Keep in mind the main stock pipe is plastic and plastic works differently under different conditions such as whether it is hot or cold. The CAI...or most of them anyway...are metal so their change due to tempature is slighter. Besides, there are dynos to back up the power gain of a CAI, if someone can post a dyno with just a filter...let us see which one is worth it. With a CAI there is like I believe a 5hp gain in power plus you save gas, well as long as you keep from using VTEC anyways. Sound wise, the CAI is not really that loud and idle and normal speed cruising, you'll just here a slight wooshing sound. It does get slightly louder if you have your AC on, but other than that...pretty quiet...pretty tame.

I wouldn't mind seeing a dyno chart with the K&N drop in and the resonator removed compaed to a short ram or CAI. Anybody have anything like this?
