insurance rates for TL Type S

I was doing some comparative rating today (work in the insurance industry) and noted that the Acura TL Type S has been assigned a higher rating index than average which means the premiums are typically higher.

For example when I changed to a Audi A4 3.0 Quattro my premiums reduced by $200 over a period of 6 mos. !!! Quattro is a more expensive vehicle and additionally 4x4 !

Any guesses as to why? safety of the TL is not all that great?? Higher theft risk?

Part of it is higher theft. The Accord is one of the most-stolen vehicles in the country, and the CL/TL do share many parts with them. In addition, I would suspect that the Audi has more sophisticated safety features (but I'm not sure about that).

Well, since we are on the subject. I'm curious what everybody is paying for their comprehensive insurance coverage. I know alot of factors may impact premium (deductable, insurance company, coverage level, location, etc.), but I just wanted to get a general idea if I'm getting a good deal or not. I'm currently paying about $500 semi-annually with $500 deductable.

Because insurance is a fvcking scam. A bunch of money hungry fvcks that sit at the top and screw everyone out of their money!

I have had close to 4200 dollars in repair costs w/in this year alone. half my fault, half other people fvcking up my car.... I carry a 500 deductable to make my repairs easier on my bank when silly stiff happens. each time I had my agent run a quote with this incident on my record... my insurance, even when I was not at fault, premium increased over the next three years enough that they made all their money back and then some...

I hate insurance, you should be able to elect a surety company ove an insurance agent that ensures you pay out for damages done, minimal insurance cost should then be applied to cover serious injury. Insurance should NOT be a multi million dollar industry.

When I was shopping for the TLS I also got quotes on other cars like the Maxima and most of the cars were within $50 of each other. I pay around $1050 per year for the TLS. I have a clean record and am 30 years old (age and record obviously contribute to your rate).

It's ironic how this message was posted today...I was just talking about it with my brother. Anyway, I pay a little less than $3,300 annually for my '02 TLS. Keep in mind that I live in Jersey, which has the highest insurance premiums in the country, and my deductible is only $200. I haven't gotten any moving violations in the past 4 years.

Any other Jersey TLers with comparable premiums?

:wow: Damn that's high xbabiparux! With that kind of premium, you could've been paying for the premium on a motorcycle. Better look into a different insurance company or up your deductable dude. My condolences to you NJ guys.

When I am finally able to get my '03 TL-S navi, I'm only going to be paying about $50 more per year than I did on my '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Going to be $280/half. And yes that is correct I'm in Ohio, outside city limits (by about 50 feet ), and we have 2 cars and our home insurance with the same agent. Accident free, accept for ones that were not our fault, and were paid by the offender's insurance.

We have State Farm, and they have always been great. They went after the other insurance company when they refused to pay 100% for the wreck that totaled my wife's car, and got us the full amount.

$1600, with a clean record, but that's with a ton of discounts.

Multiple car
Good driver
Multiple policy (I have my homeowners with the same company)
There are more...

If lived 30 miles south (in Chicago), it would be SIGNIFICANTLY MORE.

Question

This might be kind of straying off the topic but, is insurance for an SUV expensive, im thinking of getting a car (TL) or an SUV (pathfinder).

If anyone can help or knows, that would be cool. Thanks.

For the most part yes. Not sure the reason why... but it's been
mentioned that they are prone to attract bad drivers (people who
tend to bump into stationary things) and because they cost a lot
of monetary damage when they are involved in an accident (suv
and the other vehicle). Not really sure how much of that is true
but makes sense.

Another thing is that SUVs cause more damage upon impact so insurance carries have raised their rates on them to cover the larger repair costs.

I pay $2,106 per year in the NYC suburbs. I've got a clean record and am 25.

I totally agree with you man.......Insurance companies are the only industry in the world where they can write off ALL of thier losses against the comsumer. Can you imagine if cars were that way. Lets take Ford for example, they took major losses this year because of the tire problems. Now what if you were required to buy Ford products by law and you had to pay 100,000 for a Focus. Now thats exactly what insurance companies do. By the way I live in Staten Island I'm 20 with one ticket three years ago and I pay $465 a month for eight months for a 2000 Galant GTZ. No thats not a typo. Then they wonder why people scam the insurance companies for millions of dollars a year. If everyone paid $500 a year like some of you guys no one would try to scam them.

Here's the annual breakdown of my bill (just paid it)... I have two cars, and really only drive the Acura (anyone want to buy a '96 Altima???)

I have a $250 deductible, Comprehensive, Collision, PIP, Bodily Injury, Medical payments, and loss of use.

The 12 month total for my 2002 Acura TL-S w/navi and only 10,200 mi. comes to...

$770

The same coverage on my '96 Altima w/101k miles comes to...

$652.40

Not bad! (Again - anyone wanna buy a used '96 Altima?!?)

Some of the amounts I'm reading prior to this post are INSANE! Your rates will only come down with

1. Age
2. Good driving record

(I hear 'ya - I used to pay over $1.5k/year for a '84 Isuzu Impulse...)

$1400 a year with a $1000, yes a $1000 deductible....and this is the 2nd car insured by them. If I lived several blocks away (and be in NY "City"), the same coverage would be $2100!!!....It's a minute away!!

I pay about 1400 CDN per year for my TL-S. Much better than the 2200 CDN per year for my 1998 Prelude.

2003 TL-S
37 and married in KC suburbs

$250,000/$500,000/$100,000 Liability
$100 Ded Comp
$500 Ded Collision
$100,000/$300,000 Uninsured
$100,000/$300,000 Underinsured
Emergency Road Service

All for $381.80/6 months at State Farm - but also have house and second car with them and no claims ever (except for windshields and a tow).

I have had my share of tickets but State Farm doesn't check according to my agent (my brother almost had his license suspended for too many tickets and SF never bumped up his rates either).

$2000 or more a year would really suck!
