Instrument cluster lighting
Hi guys,
I am new here and I have a few guestion regarding making the light brighter and whiter for the 02 3.2TL. I need to know what is the type of light bulb in there? (168 type light bulb?) If there is 168 type light bulb I know where to the the super cool white (8000k) LEDs that are make to fit the 168 socket. Check here: http://www.netdisty.net/ds/WF3126/

Good luck dude. They're not standard bulbs. You cannot buy them,
Check out Nate's posts on what he had to do to change the color of his dash lights.

I have a 1st Gen TL and I replaced the bulbs behind my instrument cluster with Polarg Superwhite bulbs. There are five 168 wedge style bulbs. I'm not sure about the 2nd Gen TL though. Call the dealer and ask them. I've been dying to put LEDs behind they're but I cant decide between blue or 8000K Superwhite.

You can see what the back of the cluster looks like in the pics I posted here:

I've changed the bulbs out with LEDs for the LCD, which uses the same bulbs (more or less, some of the bulbs are fatter, some skinnier) as the rest of the gauges. Check it out:
I've also changed my blinkers to use LEDs.

Damn bro, that looks nice. Good luck with everything. BTW, was I right with the 194/168 bulbs lighting up the numbers on the guages? It might be different on a 2nd gen TL. How did you make the blinkers LEDs? You mean the blinkers in the cluster right? I was thinking of doing something like that to mine but they have that green plastic with the arrow on it so you cant take it off. What did you do?

LED 168 lamps from Autodynamic
Nate,
Do you think these 168 LED lamps from Autodynamic ( http://secure15.dellhost.com/~d30022...ored_bulbs.htm )will work behind the gauages? Thanks

They are not 168 push-in. They are some sort of small push-in bulbs that go in a plastic clip. The plastic clip is then put through the gauge cluster's PCB and is turned 90 degrees to lock in a provide contact with points on the the PCB, giving the bulb power. I modified these clips for the blinkers and LCD screen to accept an LED, much in the same way I did for the rest of the car. I drilled a hole and ran a resistor out the back, then brought the resistor lead around to touch the PCB contacts.
