inner and outer tie rod ends.

Ok I took my car in for a aligment on thursday at sears in G-vill, FL. They said they cant do the aligment casue my inner right tie rod end is loose. So I need a new one. So I said ok and told them I have to get it done in tampa becasue thats where I live and I was just visiting people in town. So I just get back from sears here in Tampa and they say its not the inner its the outer.

So they cant find the tie rod at any autostore and they have to call the dealer. Does anyone know how much this will run and how long can I last on the current tie rod.

If you need more detail please let me know.

I just did one quick search,

partsamerica.com which is a local store $21-31 each. you might have to order it online though. But you can try the dealer if you want to pay 2X more .

One says inner , the other says outer. This is why I check them myself and replace it myself and just take it to the alignment shop.

I had the same problem. Paid a local shop $100 for parts and labor.

To check, jack up the wheel that is "loose or had some play" then move it in a left and right motion (like when you turn left and right). If it moves/loose then you need to replace the tie rod.

I have this problem with my Mitsubishi right now. Doing the wiggle test at the 12 and 6 'o clock position shows no play, but doing the test at the 3 and 9 'o clock position (left and right motion) shows a ever so slight bit of play. Outer tie rods were replaced about 20k miles ago, but inner ones are original at 131,000 miles. The symptom i am having on that car is a slight steering wheel shimmy at speeds over 70MPH. Am ordering a set of inner rods and will be installing this weekend.
