I rear-ended someone..

.. in my wife's van, thank God! I was making a right turn and could swear I saw the lady in front of me go ahead. I was so busy looking at oncoming traffic, and when I saw an opening, I hit the gas before looking in front of me and BAM! I rear-ended a CRV. Didn't do much to her vehicle, but it put a nice little dent in the hood of my wife's van. Sucks too - we have a new Odyssey on order, so I need to get the van fixed up and ready to sell in the next couple weeks.

Lucky thing is, I should have been driving my TLS. My son and I were running errands, and at the last minute I decided to take my daughter with us. Since it's a real pain to load both kids in the TLS, I just took the van instead. That could have been my TLS with the dented hood and scuffed-up bumper!

Ah, I did this once in my 97 Accord. A lady in an older Oldsmobile sedan ahead of me started rolling on a right turn and stopped abruptly at the corner. Of course I had my head cocked to the left looking for oncoming traffic, and WHAM! Luckily there was absolutely no damage to either car. Good old bumpers!

Note to drivers: Do not stop abruptly when turning right into oncoming traffic.

Anyway, my sympathies.

I know, I got rear-ended like this about 15 years ago. Even today, I cringe if I have to stop abruptly if I thought I could go ahead and make the right turn and changed my mind at the last second. I'm scare the driver behind me will rear-end me, still after 15 years.

That teach us a lesson...always look for the vehicle in front of us..then...look for the incoming traffic..hehe...

I saw these kind of accidents everywhere..

Yeah Daverman, I recommend you watching the person in front of your rather then convicing them to move when YOU think they should. I have seen this happen just too many times, and I have a turn at work where I worry about this happening to me every day by people like you.

It's hard to be looking simultaneously ahead and at cock your head to check the traffic you're trying to merge into. Normally when people start accelerating into the traffic flow you expect them to keep accelerating.

I think hesitation is a major problem common to inexperienced drivers. Since nobody has 360-degree vision, you tend to take motion cues as indications of a driver's next move.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the person behind needs to keep and eye on the person ahead. But the person ahead should also avoid hesitation, since that provides false cues to the person behind. If the goal is to avoid a collision, then both drivers are amiss.
