I need advice

Hey everyone,
I have a dilemna here what should I do.

My car has 99k (warranty up to 100k) on it and I went to the dealer and told him about the problems that our transmissions are having....Now I have not had any problems with my transmission except a big clunk when reversing... but they have agreed to replace the tranny....

What should I do in this case? Would my car be considered a POS if I sold it down the road with a rebuilt tranny?

Thanks for your input

Personally, I don't buy cars with rebuilt trannys or engines. If you sell it to an individual instead of trade-in then you will probably get less $ for it. A dealer won't even check, but they'll still low ball the price.

That said, most people aren't mechanically inclined to even ask about rebuilt parts on cars when they are buying them. THey may ask problems and you can mention the tranny if you want to or not. You may just say that it was replaced by the dealer because it was a known issue with the cars. Not as bad as saying you blew a tranny, more like it was a mechanical issue with the car. It sounds better.

If you're planning on keeping the car for a long time, then there really won't be much of an impact in the price. Personally, I'd get the rebuild from teh dealer ratehr then have the entire tranny die a year later and have to pay it out of pocket.

if they're giving it to you free, take it. you've got 1000 miles left on your warranty, and the tranny is a known problem.

much better to take the proactive approach and fix the problem before it occurs.

do you really want to pay a couple grand to fix it out of warranty, even if its just a possibility that it could break?

Do what agean said. I don't think your car would be a POS if it had a rebuilt tranny. If anything, it may help more because your rebuilt tranny will have 0 miles on it as opposed to your current one with 99K miles.

Thanks for the replies everyone

It has 100 thousand KM not Miles ...But yes I do drive alot I drive down to NYC once a month so its all highway KM on the car.

I am going in to the dealership right now to go ahead and have them replace the tranny just for protective measures....

I will let you know how it goes...If I notice any difference between the two transmissions.
