I have a strange radiator problem

Last night when I turned off my car the radiator fan would kick on. When I turn the car on it turned off. It stayed like that for about 10mins and then turned off. Has anyone heard of that? I did a search and found it on a 1st gen TL. But not on a second Gen. I have an 03 TL-S.

and yes i've had cars before that do that. But i've had my TL over a year now and that was the first time It's ever done that.

Was it a really hot day? Did you run the motor hard? Was the AC on? It could be that the engine temp was higher than normal therefore it ran longer than usual.

that has never happened to me, it doesnt sound right. Mine will shut off with the key off and then turn right back on when i turn the key on if the temp is still high enough to need it on.

My old Hondas do this (or used to do this). It would run the fan for 10 mins after I shut down the car on a hot day. It happened in my 86 Prelude and also happens in my 96 Accord.

So far there are 2 informitive posts and they contradict each other,so let help get this figured out.

OK. Here's the short short version. Engine coolant temp greater than 219 degrees f and the ignition switch hits lock... the radiator fan control module will energize the radiator fan relay for about 15 minutes. Hope that answers your questions.

It got up to 112 deg F a couple of days ago here (thats really hot for Canada) and mine was doing the same thing. It seems to do it more with city driving. Mine usually doesn't do it , but with it being such a hot summer it seems to do it more often. I think its normal.......

Cheers

Live in So.Cal. never had this happen to me. My friends Jetta will always run after you turn it off. Always, no matter warm or hot. Never knew honda/acuras do it too.

ya like i said earlier, mine has never done that. If i turn the car off while the fans are in use ,they turn off also, and then when i turn the car back on the fans turn on again( if the temp hasnt dropped enough while the car was parked) prehaps there are two differant critacle temps here, one being when the fans will turn on with engine on and a higher temp setting when the fans will stay on w/ engine off.
If that is the case you should really find out why your engine is getting that hot. is the temp gauge ever going above halfway? mine has never and that includes 110* dessert drives.
I just read the 1st post again and that is NOT right, why did the fans turn off when the key was on? if the engine was hot enough to require the fans to kick on with the key off,(cooling the engine to prevent damage)then why not with the key on?
but to get it all in perspective, if the cars not running hot(passed mid-point) then you should be fine. I accually was more worried about my system because since day one my fans will not stay on when i turn the key off. I was imagining my engine just sitting there cooking.
