I got a ticket for my rear turn signals...
Hey all,
Haven't posted in a while. Well, my 2000 TL got pulled over the other day for clear rear turn signals... these are actually stock bulbs but because I changed my stock taillights to clear ones, my rear signals were clear.
A couple questions:
1) Is this law nationwide? Or just in select states, like California? The reason I ask is because I always see stock BMW's and Audi's rollin' around with clear rear turns signals and they dont' seem to get bothered...
2) What is the easiest way to get this "fixed"? I don't want to go through the trouble of buying orange bulbs.... anyone try puttin' orange cellphane around the bulbs temporarily, show it to the cops, then take it off again? I thought this may be a clever idea...
Thanks!

That sucks man. But I can tell you for a fact that the white peachy color is illegal. I guess the cop just wanted to hassle you.
Or if you want, I can let you borrow my stock orange rear turn signals. Or you can just have it.

I believe it is not the lens that is illegal. If you have clear lights, you HAVE to have an amber bulb. I am not positive, but I believe this is the case.

what???? TICKET????? What does it acutally say on the ticket? If you use stock bulbs it should be yellowish when it blinks.....how can you get a ticket for that? I'm assuming its Cal's law (that it needs to be amber)? Cuz in FL I have yet to be pulled over for my blueish rear turning bulbs on my 99TL. (watch me get a ticket soon because I said that)

lol, I'm guessing this isn't a nationwide law....because I have JDM style rear taillights just like him but I have xenon bulbs in there that produces bluish/white color. I work across from a police station in FL and have yet to be pulled over for my taillights. (going 30 in a 20 miles zone is another matter)

Yup, Elegant is right... my turning signals emit a pretty bright white light, esp at nite (my friends have commented how bright they are)... so they are pretty easy to pick out if you are a cop following behind. The thing that pisses me off is all the BMW's driven by 50 yr olds who don't get pulled over...

It's the same as getting tagged for a busted tail light lens. The white light blinds the drivers behind you, especially a night. And if you ever get rear-ended, the driver can claim your tails impeded his ability to see you.

The US law for lighting on a car is 2 functional RED brake lights (red at ALL times, even if you not using the brake, so red reflector required), RED tail lights for night driving (same as brake lights), white bulb with white lens for backup indicators, Amber or red flashing bulbs for signals (lens can be white for amber, but be red for red flashers). On the front you have to have 2 functional low-beam headlights, and 2 amber reflectors of some sort. this is US DOT specs. Most cops wont pull a guy over for Xenon turn signals unless their blue, unless thier quota is low
If im wrong on this, though i dont think i am, or if i left something out, correct me.

Yeah, that's basically right.
The front turn signals CAN be orange or white, but not superwhite.
I dunno, the latest craze now is chrome dipped amber blinkers. Which is what I'm sporting. My front headlights are all one color..chrome. lol

White...Super White?!?!? How are you suppose to describe to the Judge when u are trying to fight the fix it ticket? There is no given standarded that the White light has to be a certain wavelenght or certain brightness.

As far as I know, it is illegal to have blue or red front turn singals lights and blue rear turn singals. I think if your rear turn singals are clear, basically they get you for something simular to a broken taillight. I used to have a blue front shield on my Yamaha FZR, and found out that it is illegal because if there's a car with it's headlight on at night, it will make my bike look like a police motorcycle for some reason.

Actually, they are still the same as the normal polargs.
I'm currently using chrome dipped amber bulbs now.

Ok guys...i asked a friend of mine who is motorcycle cop in LA. He said in california you have to have either red or Amber (yellow) rear turn signals, White or amber front turn signals. Red Tail lights and Brake lights, the little light on the left and right Fenders near the back bumber (a lot of hondas i guess have this) has to be red and the only people alowed to have blue is the cops (not even firemen can have blue lights in cali.) He said the Hyper-Whites are cool as long as they are not blue when they are turned off (he said any bulb that is blue when it is off is illegal in Cali.)
Oh yeah...putting colored celophane or tape over the white rear turn signals is also illegal...something about falling under a modified light something or other
hope this helps
