i got beat by a damn twin turbo gti the other day by my friend on our way back from chipotle.. i thought it was complete BS... we were at a red light and i was in ss mode... as soon as it turned green i hit the gas spinned the wheels a bit and took off... it went from 1-2nd and then i waited til almost redline to shift into 3rd.. (is 2nd to 3rd a good geear to pik up alot of speed?) and then as i was almos redlining goin to 4th my shifter didnt shift up and it hit ref limiter and i backed off the gas..... i was like this is complete BS.... now hes going around tellin me he beat me in his twin turbo gti.. do u think its possible for him to do that even if i didnt misshift?? although it wasnt my fault that it didnt go up or isit? is there a feature in the tl that would not let me go up or sumthin? iono but it made me mad

well its 2001... i think he said it had a turbo factory, but then the previous owner had put another turbo in there.. i dont know something along those lines. i dont know whether the gti's had a stock turbo in there or not... but i heard them when we were goin at it on the long straight away... it was a sad day cause he is such a cocky a**hole.

 

vdub does have some crazy shit on their cars, but i'm pretty sure they haven't come out with a tt gti....but most of the new vdubs do have direct injection, and are turbo charged....

 

Yeah, I'm not surprised that he beat you with the turbo setup. I just don't buy into the TT part. He was probably lying. The TL and even the TL-S isn't a race car.

I believe the R32 Golf is TT. (and possibly AWD)

 

don't slouch on GTIs, especially if you are stock. He is a single turbo, you can't just add a second turbo. I'm not suprised at all that you lost.

R32 is a non turbo AWD 6cyl. a modded 1.8t will walk a stock even mildly modded TL-S (speakin from expirience). Im almost certain he doesnt have a twin turbo it only comes in single turbo. get some bolt ons and dont forget to shift, you shohuld be able to bea him.

I have seen people turbo a R32 but never twin turbo a 1.8t. if the kid has a R32 with a custom turbo all the bolt ons in the world wont help u.

 

ok well im gonna look under the hood and see if he is lying... but i think i should be able to pull on his little vdub ass if he is running that stock engine and turbo... um buhh yea.. iono we will see.. im not gonna race with him for a little while.. i just filled up 43 bucks and punching that gas and hitting vtec thirty million times on my last take only got me 280 tank

 

a friend at work has an 07 gti with an intake and i took him by about a car. and with my 65 shot of nitrous i beat him by about 1/4 mile if not more

probably, they aren't that slow stock, especially a TLP. Why don't you save your gas by just not racing...or at least keep it on the track.

Not surprised he beat you. That gti from that year comes stock with turbo. The turbo is small as shit but the GTI is a very small car verses our BOAT of a TL that your tryin to run. Our TL was never meant to run anything. The TL is heavy as shit and his GTI will take you either way. Plus if its TWIN TURBO and if you know your shit about engines and performance work, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN BOTHER RUNNING HIM. Thats a waste of time. Any twin turbo car will blow the TL off this planet. Do me a favor, dont ever race a turbo car ever again, our TL can not compete, i dont care what anyone says, its a waste. The end. Unless you got a supercharger, dont bother running the TL. lol. Thats my opinion though, you dont have to take my advice.

Yea don't sleep on the 1.8t they are quick and dvsxlt247 is right GTI's are lighter cars and so the engine has less weight to haul around.

Well i would say you answered your own question. Its not a TT. It came with a turbo, and the guy put another turbo in it. MEANING he swapped the factory turbo for a better turbo
