I drive into the city a lot and....

I wanna get comptech springs, but the thing is I drive into the city a lot, that is NYC. Do you think I can get away with comptech springs w/o really f'ng somethign up or is my ride going to be so horrible? I mean my heart is torn, I wanna drop the car so bad, and everytime I see comptech springs for sale, Im so tempted to buy it but dont know if its wise for me to do.

Most of the members that have H&R Sport Springs or Comptech do very little city/pothold driving. Does anyone care to comment on this??

personally I dont think it would make that much of a difference, I mean if you drive carefully. Its not like your slamming your car 4 inches...just 1.5 inches or so. Basically with sub par roads, I would be most worried about 18 or 19 inch rims, not lowering my car by just a little.

GO FOR IT, Im about too

I don't know how the streets of NYC are, but the streets of LA are horrible. If the streets of NYC are anywhere near LA, you shouldn't lower it. You'll definitely break something on your car.

I go to LA once in a while, and I feel like I'm offroading on my car. I hold up the traffic most of the time because i drive so carefully so that i don't kill my kit.

bounce... bounce... clunk... clunk... scrape... scrape

Hey Raj,
I have the H&R springs w/ the OEM kit on my car and I drive through the city all the time without any problems. I've never bottomed out the car, but you just have to be careful and pay attention to the road. I think when Hyde had his TL-S, he even drove through the city with the Comptech drop and his 19's on.
I think you'd be safe, just go ahead and drop the car.

MDOT assigned the worst civil engineers when they built the roads in East Lansing.

But I get by fine with OEM kit and H&R Sports. Of course I do bottom out from time to time on steep driveways. But I learned to take steep inclines and declines at an angle. You will be fine. The pros definitely outweigh the cons of lowering your car. Go for it.

I think you'll be fine as long as you stay with 17s. If you go with something bigger then you risk denting your rims ... The drop itself shouldn't matter. Just be real careful and watchout for shit like manholes sticking up.

I'm originally from NJ so I've driven in and around the city ... never with my TL, but a small drop like Comptech shouldn't really kill your ride. If you slam it, then I'd worry!

Yup drove through the city with my kit, drop & 19's. Just keep your eyes on the road, and your speed around the speed limit. Race through traffic with the cabs, etc, and you'll have problems, but keep it on the slow side, and you can see, and avoid any potential problems.

Hahaha... Dude... you have no idea how friggin much I want to drop!! Im just so scared of ride quality. I dont want to have to be slowing down for evey dam pot hole and holding up traffic like Mongolian said. Like I said, its not just a few occasional trips I take into the city, I go there almost 3 times a week, that is why all this concern. If I went in like 2x a month, then hell I wouldnt care. Im still on the fence... what I need to do, is ride with someone with stock RIM and comptechs into the city, to be sure... ne volunteers?? Hehe!!

I live in queens and drive to the city all the time , i personally would not drop the car the roads in nyc are horrible but if you are a careful driver then go for it but there are so many potholes that if you try to avoid one you will just hit another one. but to each its own.

I'd get sways

To me sways were more worth it than the springs...
But I ended up getting the springs as well.

Last year I went back and forth from just springs, to sways + springs, to sways + tein ss, to sways + tein ss + edfc ... I ended up buying the springs but didn't install them before I decided on the teins ... luckily I was able to sell the comptech springs locally, and the rest is on my car

Yeah... I got the sways off somebody and they are the BEST mod IMO for the car... then someone got a good price through a local dealer on the springs and I called and was able to get it.. it was more of an impluse buy that I just couldn't refuse.

If its a $$ issue then get the sways first.

just drop it. the TL sits so high that if you drop it 1.5 inches you won't even notice it. I drive in the city and I don't have any problems, just the pot holes, but not scraping.

Drop the ride, but go with the h&R OE sport springs and you should be ok since you dont want to drop it too low. I think with those springs you'll be safe in the city. I drive to the city every other weekend and I know how the roads are. I'm gonna go with the H&R OE sport springs because I dont want too low of a drop.

NYC Roads

I drive into the city everyday and have a '97 Civic with 17's, Eibach Pro-Kit (1.5 all around) and Tokico struts. The ride & handling is great on smooth roads but I always have to be careful not to fall into something. After the winter is when u find all the potholes created from the weather and heavy traffic. Thats why I'm skeptical about lowering my TL. Plus if u plan on driving with a little speed, you'll have to be careful cuz thats when they seem to appear then u have to swerve to watch out for them cuz u don't know how deep they are. It all depends on ur profiles. I have 205/40.

I drive into downtown DC at least 3 times a week. I have the H&R Sport springs with Tokico HP Blue shocks. Just don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine.
