How To Take Pictures for Beginners
Most of you probably have a good camera sitting in your pocket. Yes your smart phone. Smart phones have a low aperture that allows a lot of light in it`s small lens. Lets start with that.
Light is the most important thing when taking a picture. A smartphone will take a great picture during the day and less of one at night because generally the flash isn`t that great.
For example: In a well lit parking lot your smartphone will take a nice picture, under a gasoline station canopy maybe not so well.
Using a digital camera has the same effect, cheap flash but can get a good picture during the day.
The worst are flip phones just bad all around.
You want a great picture especially for a photo shoot, hire somebody that is a professional, or use a DSLR with lens` that have a low aperture 4.0 or below.
Taking pictures at night is tricky even the best photographers find it a challenge. With whatever camera you use, be patient, try out the different scene modes and flash supplied with the camera and always use light to your advantage and take a few extra pictures just in case.

^how much would you like to spend?
and what do you like to shoot? (im assuming cars)
Nikon D3100 is a beginners cam. Priced about $450.
the Canon alternative to the D3100 is good too.
I suggest holding them and getting a feel for them first before you buy, much like a gun. you want it to be comfortable and easy to use.

there are also shops out there that rent out equipment and even cameras so you can see how you like them before you actually purchase one for yourself.
Depends on your budget, Nikon has a great Lineup of DSLR for DX format. Go to BESTBUY and try the cameras! They always lend it so you can test it in site...

D5100* (600 bucks w/lens)
D5200 (Updated 24mp CMOS 800 bucks w/lens)
D90 (I wont recommend it, Outdated hardware in All specs)
(Top of the Line)

D7100 (1.5K w/lens)
Explained =
The D3100 and D3200 had the Slowest shutter and outdated AF system from all the lineup.. The D32 is a nice upgrade to 24mp but still have a somewhat lacking AF system to the standards of DX format.
The D5100 (I'm biased) uses the Same CMOS as the D7000 so you can expect same Quality in its pictures.. What the D51 lacked was the D7K awesome AF system (It had a Stripped down version) and faster shutter speeds which you can compensate with a Really fast Prime lens.
The D5200 Uses the newer 24mp standard CMOS and upgraded AF system to the D7K Specs
The D7000 (D7K) considered the KING of DX format has the fastest shutter and the fanciest AF system Logic (Now the D71 has it).
The D7100 upgraded its Shutter Speed and AF Logic into a newer 24mp CMOS..
All in all You can be happy with either Nikon DX.. You only need to understand the limitations of the Camera you are Buying.
Hope that Helps.
I have the D5000 and the D7000. D5000 has the kit lenses (this camera is for sale also), and the D7000 I use the "nifty fifty", Tamron 28-75 f2.8, and will be purchasing the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 soon.
Don't see any reason to upgrade anything else. This is only a hobby for me. I like taking pictures of the family.

The way those plates are mounted on the TL is terrible, would have been better with a bumper with a larger mounting area. I love what you've done with the car, except those exhaust tips, they look out of place.
