use vinyl if you are not comfortable with paint... i myself used vinyl on my car and it's holding pretty well for over 1 year now!!! i may need to remove them in future as i didn't wet sand the pillars before putting vinyl on so whenever it's very hot it bubbles up on uneven spots but goes back to normal after cooling down.....
checkout out my old thread. few members posted the pics of vinyl that are still on.

Im temped to use vinyl but looked at these on ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acura-TL-Pia...ht_2242wt_1185 seems they will match better with my nbp paint. Still, might just use plasti dip as well to match with my stock plasti dipped rims...

i plasti-dipped my grill ( mesh grill ) and kept the emblem chrome, i love the way it came out, plasti-dip would have saved me 140$ on getting my roof laid with black vinyl, love this stuff

Hey!
Has anyone ever seen the 3M vinyl?
they offer it in various colors of brushed aluminum and carbon fiber.
the textures are great and you can even go to their website and request a sample pack and see for yourself.
I did and am thinking of doing brushed silver on my interior.

You don't have to remove them; I didn't. I sanded them down on-car then applied the vinyl and trimmed with a sharp blade.
You do not want the vinyl to wrap around the pillar. What will happen is the hard weather stipping around the window frames that contacts the pillars when you open/close the door will actually move/lift the vinyl on really warm days. So, you actually don't want the vinyl to cover that contact areas - you'll find yourself find trimming where necessary. I recommend not cutting the vinyl to the shape of the pillar before applying it because you will NEVER line it up right. Cut a piece with a lot of overlap then trim it to shape, trust me. The last thing you want to do is have to lift it to straighten it when applying - you introduce micro bubbles.
All said and done, it's been years now and mine still looks great.
