How much room above dome light? (for CCFL inverter)
Has anyone removed the dome light to see how much room is above it?
I stuck the PIAA Xtreme White T-6 in the dome light even though it didn't really fit, but I'm not happy with it. I'm a little worried because it's 10 watts rather than the rated 7, and also is not that bright.
I was thinking about putting in some of those cold cathode fluorescent lamps (like the kind they use for laptop backlights). I found a JKL 3.2*100mm lamp and driver at Fry's and tried it out; I really like the lamp color, although it is not as bright as the T-6 (only rated at 45 lumens). I think two or four of them would give me the brighter whiter light I am looking for.
The problem is that the while the fluorescents fit nicely into the dome light, the inverter I got does not, hence the question regarding space above the dome light.

Hmm. you really want your lights. Well, there's a lot of room above there and those mini-transformers are pretty small. Just in case though, if the sunroof poses a clearance issues, be prepared to mount your transformers to the sides of the car and just extend the wires.

if you exten the wires more than 1.5 feet the light output will exponentially dim cus of the wire resistance!!!! and the inside roof is metal great chance of transformer shorting out.....
