How many scratches, dings/dents on your car?
After returning from boston on the prom nite, i notice two new scratches and one ding on the doors. The ding is in my door about 2mm. and the other scratches are in the front passenger door about 1/2 inch. I am f*cking pissed!!!
I'm thinking about taking the car for a buff job and get rid of the ding. How much does it cost?

I have no dents and 1 scratch under the front license plate.
Not doing too bad for an 01' w/ 28k miles. See if you can get "dent wizard" to hook you up on the dent and "color blends" on the scratches. I know both are in our area - MA. It should be much cheaper than an auto body place, my a$$ hurts more walking out of an auto body place than it does leaving a dealer.
I was thinking of buying the paintless dent repair kit and learning how to do it. Could make some decent money on the side. I think they get like $50 a dent or something like that. I can get a full kit w/ video for around $300 not too mention be able to fix my own dents.

Scratches??? Hmmm... I guess someone was jealous of my TL last december, because I woke up one morning and went out to my car (this happened at Auburn University) and there was a HUGE key mark stretching from one side of the rear, all the way across the trunk, to the other side.... its still there right now too... I need to get it re-painted. Then I hit a curb cause a soccer mom was in my way, so I need to get the right front end of my bumper painted as well..... I guess those two scratches add up to a minus 40 hp????

Got rear ended once, which left a couple of HUGE gouges and a LOT of scrapes on the rear bumper. The sides of the bumper also popped out a little. Got the insurance money from the guy who hit me, but decided it wasnt all too bad looking, so left it there. Then, within a few months, got rear ended again pretty badly. This time the bumper got creased down the center, and the sides are pretty much sticking out now. Got insurance money again, and had it fixed once. Then, some idiot in a supermarket parking lot nailed the panel just superior to the front passenger door (right behind the tire), which prevented teh passenger door from opening fully without making a lot of creaking noise and scratching. Got that fixed (repainted, etc). There are a few deep dings here and there from inconsiderate idiots who let the doors of their winter beaters swing open freely, and then simply leave the scene.

This is me, sorry to hear about your latest additions. I vote stay away from those dent kings/fix it yourself deals. $50 sounds about right. Get it done professionally. They sometimes have to "massage" it to get it out. If it creates a crease, then it's a little more involved.

No one I'm sure has done anything as dumb has I have to their "new" TLS. The second week I got my car, I looked at this old mit I had used on my old car. I figured it was still in decent shape so I used it. After drying off the car I realized little swirly scratches all over the entire car because there was a small pebble caught in the mit. So I have a 2003 ABP that looks like someone discreetly keyed it while washing it. I feel like the biggest idiot on earth, I swear that's the stupidest thing I've ever done.

Oh it makes me cringe just reading that. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

About 1,562 scratches and little nicks all over the hood from the POS dump trucks traveling up and down the florida turnpike. Not that I was following them, but even if they are three cars in front, I can still hear the little pebbles hitting the hood. I better stop driving so fast or get me a "winter" beater....

Thanks guys, hard lesson learned. It's nothing like people in awe over ABP and getting close up on it and saying "Dang, where did the swirl scratches come from?" It so sucks. I figured I could get it stolen and start over or let someone total it. Neither are good ideas but I don't trust anyone to repaint that entire car. So I've just chalked it up to retardation on my part. The scratches are deep, their surface scratches but very noticeable even to the untrained eye. I just have to live with it. I will definitely give the scratch X thing a try, I'll go pick some up on my lunch break. Thanks

Type S Lady,
Before you go out and buy ScratchX, do this test....
Run your fingernail across the scratch. Does it get caught? If it does ScratchX isn't gonna do much to help.
Best bet is to take it to a body shop and have it buffed with a mild abrasive. Should minimize the effect.

NSXNext, there not deep like that. I definitely can't run my nail through them so I guess that's good thing. So you suggest getting a professional buff job, I'm willing to try anything. I'll let eveyone know how it turns out.

They are both great products. I use SMR quite a bit...HOWEVER....if you are a Zainoholic like myself, you cannot use SMR to fill swirls. You have to remove it prior to putting down Zaino. It won't bond to the SMR.
So you can use it to remove swirls, just not to fill them.
Just an FYI, Zaino is coming out with an SMR-like product that is polymer-based and will fill swirls. I have some that I'm testing for Sal. I just need a nice long weekend to do it.

NSXNEXT,
So you apply SMR and then remove it prior to any Zaino. Do you use MF towels, foam applicator for application ? and then MF towel for removal ?
I use a foam applicator for application. Dunk in water, squeeze it out until damp, spritz with a shot of Z6 and then apply a Z5/ZFX or Z2/ZFX. And then wipe off with MF towels.
Please elaborate on your process with SMR.
I've heard blurbs of the future SMR from Zaino. Let us know how it goes.
