3-5 minutes while sitting in the car listening to the traffic report or studying notes that I should have studied the night before.

I believe in some cities it is illegal to leave your car idling outside while not being in it. Friend of mine did that with his Bimmer and had it stolen in the few minutes he had left it. This is probably only in high-crime/metro areas though.

If anyone who lets the car warm up with the doors unlocked wouldn't mind sending me their address, I will be happy to have some spare race car parts!
The city I live in has a very high cars warming up- I just went inside to get my....stolen car rate.
The cops even drive around in the morning and if your car is running they stand next to it until you return and have a little preventative chat.

And guess what your insurance company will have to say about the whole thing

That remote starter sounds great. Anyone suggest a good unit? DIY Project? $$$?

Oh no, why did you have to tell me that... ;-) I had two motor mounts replaced about 10k miles ago. How would I know if they went bad again? I'm not even sure which ones they replaced, or how many there are in total for that matter.

i'd let it sit for about 10 min with the heater on so it'll kick in whenever it's ready, and the butt warmers on too. then when i go, i don't exceed 2500 rpm for first 5 mins.

hey, i saw this somewhere so i'm gonna do a search, but just wanna ask anyways =P.

when my car goes for the first time of that day, when i put the car in reverse, it goes into it kinda hard.... goes like.. KACLUNK. feels like it hurts, and i hate it cuz i feel like my tranny is gonna jump out of my hood like a hot potato. does anyone else do this? it still does it even after i've warmed it up for like 20 mins. doesn't do it in drive but does it in reverse.
Holy moly, this is the EXACT thing my tranny is doing!!! This is really starting to scare me now...

I noticed this only after I came back from being out of the country for three months. The car sat in the same spot for that duration. Ever since then, it hits really hard when I throw it into reverse with the engine being cold.

I have 88k miles on my 99TL and bought it in Apr of 99 which means I'm over the 7 year warranty by 8 months. Do you think if I take it in to Park Ave Acura, they'll replace it for me for free considering I have complained about it to multiple dealers since the car had 40k miles on it? Everytime, they come back to me saying that they didn't find any problems with it. I want to keep my car because I have taken amazing care of it both inside and out, and don't want to see all that work be thrown away for something like this.

If you are doing it for comfort, then this doesn't apply, but if you are doing it for your car, the best thing to do is start the car, drive it after a minute or so, and just baby the engine until the oil has reached operating temp.

If you are sitting in your car freezing, and aren't back in your house waiting, this is also the quickest way to get heat into the cabin.

I had the exact same problem. Mine wouldn't do it every time, but the easiest way to reproduce it was to go back and forth from neutral to reverse repeatedly while parked.

That's how I showed it to the mechanic at my dealer - turned out to be the front motor mount. As the engine rocks when you shift gears, with a broken mount there isn't anything to soften the movement and you'll feel it from the seat. It was not covered under warranty (I had 99K at the time, now at 106k).

And as an aside, I have been driving for 20 years, and have never had to replace a motor mount, nor do I ever really remember anyone else mentioning a similar problem. Maybe it was because I drove crap cars (likely) - but I've had three mounts replaced on this car in 3 years. I swear they must make them out of ziploc bags filled with jello.

Well hmmm parking on a hill? let me guess, you pull up on a incline, slam it in park and let off the brake then put your emergency on..... hmmm i can see you messing #$@$ up from the clunking noise the correct way to park on a incline no matter how many degrees is too.... wait should i tell you? hehe pull up to your desired spot , hold the foot brake pretty firm then put in park, then PUSH down on your emergency brake ( keeps the tranny from being under a load) and last release the foot brake.... done!!!
