How to know whether tranny is slipping?
How to know whether tranny is slipping?
• Abnormal gear slippage during upshifts or downshifts. (Commonly between 2-3 and 3-4 shifts)
• Erratic or excessively harsh shifting.
what does above mean? Or I need to wait until tranny fail?
Thanks

It means exactly what you posted. The trans will slip between shifts, usually on the up shift. Harsh shifting means that. It will shift hard into gear, meaning its not smooth.
Every one of my 5 failures did this before they died. I would notice it and within 1k miles or less it would usually fail.
I was able to video tape one of the failures. Look at how the rpm spikes up a few hundred as it shifts. That is a slipping trans.

Lol - my tranny slipped like that for almost 30k miles before it crapped out.
Now i got 20k miles on a post 2009 rebuilt with DW-1 fuild and it shifts faster and much better than the tranny did when it was brand new with old z1 fluid.

Lucky! Mine Started to Suddenly Slip HARD then it didnt take 3 days before the Trans would not Shift at All......
Switch to 1 Year Intervals and ADD a Mangnefine Inline Filter... You should try to keep the ATF as Cooler and Cleaner as you can! Heat = Wear on ATF = Easiest for the Clutches to Crap themselfs Faster....
original tranny slipping
Try a 3x3 with the new Honda fluid. Consider replacing the fluid filter and cleaning the solenoid screens. Worth a shot !

3 drain and fill's x 3 quarts each time... you're gonna need like 12-13 quarts total, but dont do the drain and fills all at once... spread it out at least over a week or two (works for me). also, use the ATF-DW1!!! use anything else and your bank account will be hurting for a while!!
i had the same problem at about 88k miles .. i literally broke down in front of the stealership .. LUCKILY i was eligible for the recall on the tranny .. i got it replaced for free .. i had pay for the mounts which was about $400 ..
i think i have a bad motor mount or something though .. at the end of shifting from 1st to second the whole front end kinda slowly jerks .. it did it even right after they put the trann in .. (i hope it's only a mount)

not sure if you were talkin to me .. but, the OE tranny death happened to me about 88k .. i am the 2nd owner of the car .. all the symptoms happened right at the stealership infront of the clerk .. as far as me changing fluid, i never did ..
well i have about 170k miles now .. i havent changed the fluid since i had the "warranty unit" replaced .. and i had no idea that the mounts are vac boosted .. how can i tell if they are out, what are the common symptoms?

Trust me, when your transmission goes out you'll know.....
Look for "staggering" away from lights, like it's in a too high a gear. This means the trans is in limp mode. Also, slipping will happen when you go around a long gentle curve, like a highway off ramp. As you're turning you'll hear the RPM's go up when your foot hasn't moved. This means the friction surfaces are gone and once they're gone, they don't come back.
As I said, if you have a toasted trans you'll know it. Sadly, if you're asking the question, you probably have experienced some or all of the symptoms....
