how to get tighter steering ratio

i think the car is great in all handling aspects after my mods, except for the damn steering wheel. basically, its not tight enough. is there anyway i can make the rims/tires turn more with less turn of the steering wheel?

until we move away from a rack and pinon concept into a joystick concept, you can't tighten it.

you can get a smaller steering wheel..

Yes, change your steering wheel to a smaller one. Such as one from Momo or Jamex. However, you can't change the tightness. You can feel a little bit by using heavy rims and tires,..but that defeats the whole purpose.

OK let me clarify: If you want to make the steering wheel "feel" tighter (i.e. you need to exert more force to turn the wheel), you can get a smaller steering wheel.

If you want to reduce the number of turns it takes to turn your wheel from a full left turn to a full right turn (called "lock to lock" turns), you're out of luck.

Similarly, if you want to make the car turn more tightly (i.e. reduce the turn radius), you're out of luck.

By the way, I believe the Type S has 2.93 turns lock-to-lock while the non Type S has 3.11 lock-to-lock turns, but the Type S has a 40ft turning radius vs. 36.8ft for the non Type S, so I think they both use the same rack-and-pinion assembly, but the Type S engine intrudes more into the wheel well.

You cant even do that. Isn't it illegal to replace the steering wheel because of the airbag assembly? I heard that after a certain year, you're not allowed to replace the steering wheel with anything OTHER than the stock one.

I don't believe the engine sizes are any different (HP gains are all internal or replacement parts). I believe they had to restrict the travel of the rack because of the larger tires/wheels that come standard on the TL-S. Because they are wider, they can't turn as far in and out without rubbing. The extra width would rub the fenderwells if the TL-S wheels were used on a TL-P.
