haha thats exactly what i asked here and no one could tell me how to exactly except that pry them off and they should pop off, duh.
well after fiddling around with it, you can see the stoppers have a buldge at one side. Well the side towards you. you want to push the stopper towards yourself, the you will here a click then you pry them off.

Just got back from changing the filters. First time, 63k miles! Yeah, my filters were black and there was crap everywhere. I wish I could've vacuumed it out, but I think a sweep w/ my fingers was sufficient. It only cost me $17.xx for the puralator filters. This definitely took me way longer than it should've, but it sure beats paying someone to do it.. cuz it's REALLY REALLY easy.
A few hints for guys that are planning to do this for the first time:
1) I STRONGLY recommend having a serrated blade to cut the plastic panel out.. I used a flat jackknife blade and it took me a DAMN long time of sawing to get through each tab.
2) When cutting the panel, cut everything on one side first, lightly cut all the tabs on the other side, then just fold the panel over and it'll break all the tabs on the other side.
3) Use a philips head screwdriver. I had a jackknife as my only tool, and it definitely made things harder.
Finally, something I can do myself on the car aside from washing/waxing!

I used a dremil and it took about 8 seconds to get through the tabs. Highly recomend the dremil for ease. I changed it for the first time in 83K mikes. It was black and the compartment was full of leaves and everything I could think of. I will start changing it once a year.

to answer my own question, the parts number for Purolator is C15390 for both TL-P and TL-S. My local Pepboys don't have any, well. I'll check back later.
BTW, they are selling Mobil 1 at 3.99/qt and if you pick up a calendar, there is a copone inside for 3 free QT if you buy 3 QT, the calendar cost $1 but it goes to MADD (Mom Against Dronk Driving) for a good cause. So you come out with $13 for a case of Mobil 1 (6 QT), the best deal I've seen so far. Even at their regular $4.99/QT, with the coupon is still a pretty sweet deal IMO.

I just bought a 2001 TL with 91660miles a bit over a week ago and took it in yesterday to get the new tranny put in for free (warrantied till 100,000). While they were making me a spare key I saw a sample filter and asked if MY TL had one. They said yes and the service tech showed me the exploded view of where they were located. I asked the service manager how much they cost to replace. They told me its $100.00 to replace them. So I started looking on line and found the best ONLINE deal here: http://www.expressautoparts.com/Part...Cabin%20Filter
I then called Autozone here in Utah and they stock the regular filters but have to order the Charcoal filters. $12.00 for a SET of reg filters and $39.00 for a SET of charcoal filters. I then looked at the area where the filters were located to see if I could do it myself and in about 4 minutes I had the filters out. Glad I didnt pay the dealer 100.00 to do it. Hopefully for the 100.00 they were using the charcoal filters as replacements but thats still a 60.00 charge for a 10 miniute DIY job.
I also found this (see link) DIY guide before I found THIS post. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl698g.htm
It shows using wire cutters which seems to me to be the best way to cut the tabs.

i had to use the edge attachment on my vacuum cleaner to suck most of it out.
there is a little left, but it's almost impossible to reach without taking the whole thing apart.
whoever designed that thing needs an asskicking. it doesn't seal very well (between the filters) and it makes me wonder why they didn't use one large filter element and have it inserted from the bottom.

Don't get me wrong - love my car. But that doesn't mean i'll take excuses for incompeteance. I wonder what if all the ACURA Execs. laugh about the Filter thing when amongst themselves. LOve to send each one to the Dentist for new teeth! { Sorry if anyone offended - I simply believe violence can be an effective tool to educate some persons}
