horsepower question

I was checking out the difference between teh TL-S and the regular TL and the only ENGINE difference i saw was taht the compression ratios were a bit higher on the TL-S, which to my knowledge would cause the increase in horsepower, now couldn't u just change compression ratios from the TL's computer?

lol do you know anything about cars/engines? Do you know what a compression ratio is? You can't change the compression ratio by going into the computer. It is not a program. It is mechanical. The compression ratio is basically how the empty space when the piston is all the way down in its cylinder compares with when the piston is all the way up. For example, if a certain engine has a 10:1 compression ratio, this means that at the pistons lowest level, there is 10 times more empty space than when the piston is at top dead center (all the way up). The type-s has a different head, and intake manifold which gives it the increased hp.

Do you ever get the sense that some people don't realize that an engine is a collection of mechanical parts, and not some computer? Yes, modern engines are managed by computers, but the basic parts and operation of an internal combustion engine haven't changed since the early 1900s.

yea but its still not that hard to change the compression ratio on it. you could simply have the heads shaved and it yould raise the compression and hp! but its not the easest geting the heads off to shave.

the real difference is in the intake design of the tl-s over the tl

Shaving the heads isn't exactly a simple procedure. There is a limit to how far you can go, or you will cause intake manifold alignment problems.

When I had a car with a DOHC engine it was almost impossible to mill the head ecause the timing belt would have too much slack in it and requiring an extra thick head gasket. After doing that though what's the point?

Jeezus...Changing compression, computers--all this makes me laugh. Everyone knows it the little red "S" that makes all the difference!

The most major part to change in order to get the higher compression would be the crankshaft having more offset of the connecting rod journals. I have no idea if one from a Type-S will fit in a TL-P.

I knew it! That's why my badged TL-S is *much* faster than any debadged TL-S, right? It's the little red "S." I told those guys not to make their cars naked...

This is why I added one to each fender! No one on this site can touch me! Not M3's, M5's-nothing!!! I figure the TL-P has 220hp and my TL-S has 260hp: Now with some over complex, quadratic equations and geometrical analyses (which I won't bore all of you with), I have been able to establish that means 40 extra hp! Now I have two extra emblems (more math here) so I now am up to 340hp! I then bought two extra's in case some wise@$$ wanted to steal mine and threw them in the glove box. That's right, peeps! 420hp!

I'll take on all comers!

ah no! the timing belt has a tensioner that can be adjusted if it doesnt already have a tensioner on it.

Gee, hows the tranny holding up?

I wonder how much it would cost to get the TLS intake manafold, throttle body and then shave the head... i usually dont like shaving my head, but the girls stay down there longer when i do. j/k!!

I need to find a wrecked TLS in a junk yard somewhere.

I didn't know spring-loaded belt tensioners with non-elongated mounting holes could be adjusted.
