You should be able to use a Genie garage door opener if it has the "rolling codes" feature. I did.

Make sure you press the training button the garage opener unit itself (you need to open the cover to the light bulbs to access the button, IIRC), and follow the instructions from the owners guide at https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...303O00152A.pdf

Press the Training button on the
garage door opener unit until the
light next to the button comes on,
then release it. The light may blink,
or come on and stay on. You then
have approximately 30 seconds to
complete the following steps.

Press and hold the button on
HomeLink for 3 4 seconds.
(The same button you trained with
the ‘‘Training HomeLink’’
procedure.)

Press and hold the HomeLink
button again for 3 4 seconds.
This should turn off the training
light on the garage door opener
unit. (Some systems may require
you to press the button up to three
times.)

Press the HomeLink button again.

I googled "Genie garage learn" and there are a few pics of the learn button on different Genie models. I picked that pic because it's a Genie Pro, like mine. Do you know what model number of opener you have?

What worked for me was that I had to point my garage door remote and press and hold the button on the remote and the homelink at the same time. The button you're trying to program should blink rapidly everytime you push it, that's when you know it's ready to be programmed. Now, for the garage opener there maybe a button called "Program" on the door pad inside your garage. You'll have to push this button twice and then you have 30 secs or so to push your homelink button. This worked for me.

You should go to the Genie website and check all the owner's manuals at http://www.geniecompany.com/GenieCompany.aspx?cid=322 - they'll show you were the learn button on your opener unit is.
