High flow cat MOD?

DRINKING HAS A ME PROBLEM
how big of a torque diff did it make. i know i should have gone for a ride in it the other week. but that still would not give me an idea being you have the pulley and the whole exhaust redone.

The butt dyno is happy though...lol

The RT cat fits just fine for the TL-P and CL-P, just remember that the o2 sensor wire has to be extended. I didn't feel like chopping it so here's what an exhaust shop did, and they did a great job...(I'll take pics eventually.)
1st, they chopped and downpipe flange back about an an inch and a half then rewelded the flange...
2nd, they chopped the front of the RT flange about an inch...then rewelded...
3rd, they chopped the rear flange off to weld up the 2.5" pipe going to a high flow racing muffler called "Twister" (very need design on the inside of the muffler)
4th, 2.25" pipe came out the rear of the high flow muffler down to the original y-pipe for back pressure...
if you've seen my pics in the CL DEP section you'll notice I had the rear mufflers removed and had 3" chrome pipes installed.
The exhaust is quite loud but I did gain a lot of high end power. AND, NO CEL lights came on with the new RT high flow cat!
There is a nice rumble at idle. I don't think the exhaust sounds ricey at all. It was a lil too loud for Rpappi, but he did like it though.

Also, after you do a dyno, please post it up in this forum as well as I could find no RT dynos for the TL via search or on RT's website. What else have you added since your last dyno sans the RT cat?

But I have put on...Type-S IM, Outlaw spacers since the last time I dynoed. I'm going to send my TB to KM soon...
Last time I dynoed I had on: headers, intake, crank pulley, UniChip, and no rear mufflers(pipes) @ 206 whp
I should see a nice increase with the extra add ons...might have to adjust the UniChip as well.
Also, I'm going the 3.5 L route as well.

I'm in the process of doing a little research on the jet-hot coating. I've dynoed with I/H/E/P with no coating on the headers on my TL-S @ 239 whp. So I am gonna do a few pulls this weekend with all the same mods except stock headers. Then when I get the coated ones back, I'll put it on the dyno again and see what happens. This should help people decide if they want the coating for power or just for looks. I am hoping for both. Maybe I'll try the cat next and do the same with the dyno. I am curious if it will make any difference.

so can anyone sum it all up:
is there HP gain? loss?
is there torque gain? loss?
does it really make the exhaust much louder?
on a TL-P nothing else but adding lenght to the o2 sensor is required?
how much does it cost?
thank you

The RandomTechnology website and Excelerate both failed to provide me with a dyno for the RT cat for the second gen TL. The RandomTechnology website offers dyno's for other vehicles but not the 99-03 TL. Thus, no one can say for certain what the performance of the modification is. Also, if I read correctly, Excelerate says it is a direct bolt on for a premium model where as a member on the board with a CL-P says you need to extend the O2 sensor, so there is a discrepancy there.
I believe it costs about $250.

It is a direct bolt on from what I have read. Extending the 02 sensor doesn't make it a "non-direct" bolt-on as it doesn't affect the RT Cat from bolting in place of the stock cat. @cur@-TL asks great questions and I need those questions answered before I buy one too. I figure it would decrease torque and increase HP slightly like an exhaust would, but maybe a little more HP. If someone can show me or offer their experience with these Cats to the contrary then I may be persuaded to consider this mod more than I am right now. Sitting with limited knowledge I feel uncomfortable spending my hard earned money on a product that may not be of any real benefit.

^^^Good luck finding a dyno for the 2G TL with a RandomTechnology cat. If you do let me see it as I am looking into this mod just as well.
What is required to extend the O2 sensor?

It does NOT sound like a 4 banger with a fart can...
The butt dyno says there is a lot more torque and power with the new cat and custom cat back.

If you decide to put on a custom cat back, do it right...make sure there is backpressure or you will loose power and torque, and the RT cat will be a waste of money.

lol...yup.
Exhaust goes like this...
Megan headers to RT cat to 2.5" pipe to Twister racing muffler to 2.25" pipe to stock y-pipe to chrome 3" pipes.

Some of you are worried about loosing TQ. The question is what do you think loosing a little down low is going to be like? Pulling a trailer vs not pulling a trailer? On any given day due to weather you could loose more than you would with this mod If there is any loss im sure it would be minimal and not noticeable at all. Especially if you have an exhaust with some sort of resonator on to help with some back pressure.

No one has dynoed these recently so I can't give you a dyno. If you search you might find a dyno. I searched and found a dyno of about 10 whp and 4-5 ft lbs of tq. I heard someone else say that one guy gained like 20whp and lost 5 ft lbs of tq. I can't tell you for sure though. The cat is a bolt on. You do have to extend the 02 sensor 5-6 in though. I originally thought you didn't have to do so but Greenmachine, who I recently sold the cat to, said you do.

If I had money to spend however I want when ever I'd want, I would have dynoed it.
Hopefully someone will.
CleanCL also had to extend the o2 wires as well.

well i just got my xs headers yesterday and i took off school & work to put them on. well i was actually feeling sick and was gonna call out anywayz but somehow i wasnt too sick to put my headers on. anyhow, i had to take out the whole midsection because one of the nuts to the cat was fused to the bolt, so while i had the cat out, i decided to gut it. It sounds and performs pretty good now, but theres no way for me to know what gains i got from the headers and what i got from the cat, but overall, im pretty happy.

I just installed the RT cat about 1500 miles ago. I did not have to extend the wires on my 99 tl. The O2 sensor reached just fine and I routed the wires along the same path as they were originally. The cat was a direct bolt on. I had the P0420 code for a long time. I installed the cat ran it 65 miles and the CEL went out. I put anoher 1400 miles on it since and had my emissions test today, it passed. I drove another 100 miles today and my CEL light came on. I checked the code and it was P0420!! I am not sure what's going on now. I reset the CEL and am waiting to see if it comes back on.
