HID / ballasts
Apparently the ballasts/ignitor for one of my HID lights has short circuited. I am 2 months over the 3-year mark, and the dealer refuses to cover this under warranty even though I am below the 60,000km mark.
However, since this is part of the electrical/lighting system, why isn't it covered under the 5-year major components warranty? Obviously the bulb is a wear and tear item, but it doesn't seem like the ballast should be. In addition, I've searched previous posts, and other people have had water get into the ballast unit for some reason; shouldn't the damn thing be waterproof???
All in all, Acura quoted me the following:
$45 CAD to diagnose the problem
$160 CAD for one D2R bulb on the passenger side
$660 CAD for one OEM ballast
$260something CAD for 2.5hours of labour (take off bumper, remove lighting assembly, install the new ballast, and put everything back together)
===================
I forgot what else they added, but my total is just over $1000CAD to fix the stupid headlight!!! :'(
I guess I'll have to get an aftermarket set or something...there is no way I am paying $1G to fix a headlight.

okay umm....that's just messed up. first of all for about 190 if that you could buy awesome ass 6000k xenons. (for a pair). honestly not sure about ballast cost, but i'm sure you could buy some aftermarket ballast for less. since they're being dicks and not honoring the warranty, just get it done somewhere else (or maybe you could do it if you're inclined). did they determine that the ballast is messed up? dude, definitely get a pair of 6000ks , while you have your bumper off, get some ballasts for your fogs, and you'll be all set. matching 6000k fogs...aw, friggin heaven. oh yeah, then call acura and tell them to eat a dick. :swear2:
