Hey new guy here!

Hey what's up everyone,

My name is Adam and I am in the process of purchasing a 2000 3.2TL. I'm excited, but I wonder should I worry about the tranny going bad? This car is for my fiance who is pregnant and I don't want her stranded or anything. I'm glad to be a part of your guys community!

have a mechanic check it out for shocks brakes damage etc
take into account if the 7yr/105,000 service has not been done- thats 1200-1400$
also ready for new headlight bulbs- $120 for the bulbs!
acura brake rotors suck and need to be replaced with quality brand
It may need caliper rebuilds if the fluid wasnt changed every few years- check fluid condition now- clean and clear or black and dead

CALL acura care 1-800-382-2238x5 they can give you a prebuy `history check`
they know if the trans was ever replaced, or if the recall for trans external oil kit part was done in 2004-05
or if its still on the original unit
If one operator isnt helpful- call back

A visual to check trans replacement is the bolt heads on the warranty trans are painted blue

Other than that its a great car, maybe not leather interior for kids,,,,and they all have leather- the only option was navi

Im new also and I had a question. Is it true that the transmissions that were installed after 2005 have a much lower failure rate compared to the trannies before that?

lol Theres 01tl4tl to bring the mood down with all these repairs...

Just kidding, you should get everything he mentioned check. Brake fluid and Power Steering fluid are very important things in these cars. Also, check Transmission fluid. It shouldn't have a burnt smell...

I want to make sure a new member is aware of the expense of owning a TL
If it takes every dollar to buy the car- forget it for now!

Being a former mechanic who did many prebuy inspections and saw the strangest things wrong with high dollar used cars...
might take 3-4 cars from a customer before they found one we said was ok..and saved them thousands in repairs and hidden damage

Someone here has to offer a voice of reason~

trans replaced under warranty after mid 2005 have a better lifespan and reputation than the original trans for sure- about 25% failure rate compared to 60

We are not certain of the exact date when only `new designed case` units were being distributed from the rebuilders warehouse when warranty trans ordered

rumor is they started making them in feb 05 but it may have been june before thats all that was on the shelf and being sent out
