oil is needed for our transmission?

Full stock is about 8 if I remember right, but when you drain it only 2.9 comes out. So some guys do a drain, refill, drive a mile or two and repeat. This gets a good bit of it replaced.

Actually the entire tranny holds 7.6 quarts, and a change needs about 3.1 quarts, although on my last change which I did myself, 3 quarts was all I needed. This kind of technical info is on page 308 of the owners manual.
