HELP - Stuck in 4th Gear

Hi i have a problem. When i Throw the car in drive it is stuck in 4th gear (starts off at 4th gear from 0 mph) from what my mechanic told me. It drives normal if i shift manually (not shiftronic) using the d1 to d2 to d3 etc. but wen i throw it in d4 it seems to be always be there. my mechanic told me he needs to check the wiring first see if theres a short in the wires. if thats not it he needs to replace the ecu. I told him not to do anything yet. this is because i wanted to get some advice on what you guys think it might be? the mechanic also check the silenoids and told me thats not the problem. ADVICE?

Interesting, 4th gear is all shift solenoids off. This sounds like an electrical problem. This may sound like a dumb question, but do you have a check engine light on? Is the transmission plugged in to the PCM (and no rats made a nest in the wiring harness)?

Can't this guy hook up a scanner to the car and drive it while monitoring the data coming from the PCM? He can see if the logic side of the PCM is working by that.

check engine light is on. the guys said its not a wiring problem because he checked all the wires. and it wasnt a ground problem. which only leads to one thing. the ecu.

What were the codes stored inside - did he tell you?

he ask me how long i owned the car i told him 6 months. and told me that the guy before me and put in a new ecu a performance ecu or something, because he called up honda and the numbers on the ecu does not match. i am just wondering if there really is a thing called a performance ecu for our tl?

here are the codes:
P1768
P0700

It might be the ecu that's shot. My father had a legend that was stuck in 3rd gear and it ended up being the ecu as the problem.

I hate that. I did that when racing a 350z... :yuck:

P0700 is a generic engine-side code that's worthless when diagnosing the tranny. It basically means "transmission problem"

I've never heard of a "performance ECU" for an Acura. Maybe it blew out before because of wiring problems, so he replaced it so that his vehicle would "perform" until he traded it in or sold it. ;)

Try to reset the ECU then see if everything is back to normal ......

yea mine happend while i was racing a 3.5 maxi, looks like we got issues with nissans lol

if the car shifts fine in manual mode it means nothings wrong wif the transmission right? it just means that the tranny is just getting 4th gear as the signal right?
