Angry Help - Fuel door is not closing

After I filled my tank with gas today I realized that I can't close fuel door any more, it just stays open and won't lock.
Any help would be appreciated how to fix this.

release looks fine, I can pull it no problems. Where to look for that cable, everything is hidden ?
I have no clue myself how the door lock works, never had problem with it until now.

tape it closed
that's what I did for now

let the dealer fix it
I bet they'll charge arm and leg for this fix, wanna try it myself first.

Any other ideas folks ?

Well, here are a couple ideas...the actual latch is accesible through the trunk on the driver's side if you pull back the carpeting. All you have to do to remove it is turn in 90 degrees clockwise and it should come out. Then I would get a second person and have them pull the release in the car and see if it works. If everthing works then it's something with your fuel door itself. If it doesn't it's either the cable or the latch...obviously. You may want to check the release itself to see if the cable is still attached to it. There is one screw holding the cover of the release on. Once you get that off, you'll have to pull the release up and slide the cover forward and it should come off. The cable runs down the drivers side of the car and to get at it you have to remove rear seat, drivers side rear deck, the door trim along the driver's side including the the lower center pillar piece and the trunk should already be taken care of. You should be able to trace the cable back from the release. Hope that works for you...if you need anymore info let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks Snowman, I'll try to see what I can find following your suggestions. The only part that I'm scared of is - "you have to remove rear seat, drivers side rear deck, the door trim along the driver's side including the the lower center pillar piece", hope its something easy with this fuel door and I don't have to go through removing all components.

this happened to a customer of mine last year the release cable was binding and the latch would stay depressed so I would say you need to replace the cable assy

it comes with the latch

you will have to remove all the plastic trim from the driver front all the way back including the rear seat after you do that you will see the cable and then its easy to replace

good luck!!!

Thumbs up

I pulled back carpeting, got to the latch, took it out and found that latch assembly came apart, all I had to do is to lock it in place properly. After that everything started working.
Thanks EVERYBODY for helping me with your valuable advices, I appreciate it very much
