HELP!! Cleaned my throttle body now my check engine light is on

Has this happened to anyone before? I did the EGR cleaning on the throttler body and the intake manifold and now my check engine light and TCS light came on.

I took it to autozone and the codes it is throw out is
P1399 - Glow Plug Circuit (high input)
P0300 - Random Multiple Cylinder misfire
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire
P0305 - Cylinder 5 misfire

Can anyone help? Am I screwed? I guess I need to take it to the dealer. Does anyone know if this is covered under Warranty? I have the extended 7yr / 100K miles.

thanks.

Yea I took it off and cleaned it. Made a noticable different in the acceleration. I reset the computer twice already. It would go off, then as I'm driving it will come on again. Both times it came on with the TCS light as the same time.

When i turn off the car, and turn it back on the TCS light goes away, but the check engine light is on, then after driving a couple minutes, the TCS lights comes on again.

Also cruising around 40-60 MPH, the car feels like it's misfiring. It's not smooth at all.

well taking it off shouldnt have caused any of the codes that came up
P1399 - Glow Plug Circuit (high input)
P0300 - Random Multiple Cylinder misfire
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire
P0305 - Cylinder 5 misfire

not sure how to inturprit the P1399. we dont have glow plugs.

teh missfire may be bad plugs? have you doublechecked to make sure all vacum and wires are pluged in?

What did you use to clean the IM and TB? Did you rinse it out afterward and dry it thoroughly?

I didn't get any codes when I cleaned mine, so I'm thinking something was left in the IM and/or TB and went into the engine... like the residue of whatever you used to clean it.

Well, it came on last night, so i have not had a chance today to look at it
i'll look at it again tonight.

P01399 is odd. I think the Autozone guy misread it.

Used the Carb cleaner. Cleaned up it really good, then put it back on after it dried.

that should be fine. its strange that your getting those codes after since nothing you did should have caused those codes. i guess id say try replacing the plugs, and double check all your conections you took off when cleaning

I've always heard that Carb Cleaner should not be used to clean a throttle body (it's OK for the IM) as it can remove special coatings. Instead, Throttle Body cleaner should be used. Perhaps this is not true of our tbs?

Hell, I used brake cleaner to clean the IM and the TB. No problems.

I had carb cleaner damage a sensor in a former car of mine. I'm inclined to agree with you.

Double thoughts or second thoughts?

If you're concerned, use carb cleaner on the IM and TB cleaner on the TB.

It's a dirty job but someone has to do it.

I checked the Service Manual for my '99 and it mentions using carb cleaner on the tb.

My mechanic things my tranny is going out again. He said that the TCS light and the check engine light comming on is a coincidence.

He suggest that since I'm still under warranty, to take it to the dealership.

He also said that EGR cleaning was a TSB and covered under Warranty. Anyone know if that is correct?

the check engine light and tcs light typically come on together for alot of trouble codes on the TL, why does he think the tranny is going?

as for the EGR if you are under warranty they would have cleaned it, there is a TSB for a pipe kit for teh egr if under warranty, if not its like 400+ to install and fix

I am wondering if the EGR cleaning is what I need?

I have a 2003 TL-S with only 25 000 km
At idle my I can feel engine vibration through my car seat.
It tends to do little surges of rough idlling.
The tach needle does not flutter at all though.

I took it in already once and they could not find anything to explain it and claimed that the idle was still within the specs.

Do you think that maybe these could be symptoms of EGR problems?

thx

rough idle typically indicates plugs/coilpacs, fuel injectors, broken motor mounts, or the egr. if it is the egr thats sticking it would cause a rougher idle. its kinda low miles to have clogged ports, but you can tell by removing the top portion of your IM

OK, Took my car to the dealership this morning because it was shaking really bad on the way to work. They gave me a loaner (TSX - Nice but underpwoered). Then they called me in the afternoon to tell me that the gasket us flipped, therefore causing the misfires. (I guess I flipped it. Stupid me) They fixed it. When I went to pick up the car, to my pleasant surprise IT WAS FREE. Sterling Mccall Acura service department hooked me up.

Car ran good on the way home. This is the last time I'm taking the TL apart w/o writing stuff down and taking pictures.

Is it really even worth all the effort of taking off the intake manifold and cleaning it? In all honesty, does it even make a difference? I already installed the Outlaw racing spacers so I can take it all apart again one more time, but is it worth the time... Didn't have time to clean her off the first time, she's my only one.

it makes a difference if they are clogged and causing the Check engine light ot come on, or you are experiancing a rough idle.
