Question HELP!! AEM CAI air bypass valve install

Anyone know where the bypass valve is supposed to fit on the AEM CAI? It doesn't say in the manual or in the DIY section. Thanks in advance.

Maybe I can help...

You REALLY don't even need it unless you plan to drive in more than 6 inches of water and even then you might not need it. Not including it with the install will make your car sound even better and make the intake work more efficiently with less resriction.

Nevertheless, if you STILL want to install it (you shouldn't though) it goes between the length of pipe between the pipe going into your intake and the filter.

Did I mention that you shouldn't use the bypass valve?

Good Luck!!

Well, I mean I don't want to have to negotiate with myself every time it's raining outside because I don't know if I'm gonna hit a big puddle. I'd rather have the security of the bypass valve. If I decide that I want more power, I'll just take it off. Thanks a bunch for the info. though.

btw, do you mean that you just stuff it into the main pipe that came with the product? I was thinking that it would be clamped on one of the two ends of the pipe.

Great!!! So if I decide to take it off, it would be a pretty easy deal. I appreciate the help.

Is your intake 2-pieces? If so, it goes in between the two pieces, like this.

If not, you'll want to cut the pipe so it can fit there.

Thanks guys. I've already installed the CAI, without the bypass valve since my pipe was in one piece, but I'd like to put it on. Where would I go to have the pipe cut?

When you have it installed at a performance shop (or at your friendly Acura dealership) - the shop will cut the intake for you. When you install it yourself - you'll have to cut the intake.

Later,

As an AEM cold-air intake owner myself, I'm interested in where you get your "facts." I mean, I've been to several TL/CL meets and I've yet to hear a difference between an AEM CAI with a bypass valve and one that's not bypassed. So I'm hard-pressed to agree with your "it will sound better without the bypass valve" advice. But hey, maybe you can hear a difference. But come on... "it will work more efficiently with less restriction" -- I've heard a lot of debates on this subject and I can't remember anyone using that argument. The whole point of the bypass valve is that it doesn't open until the air filter tries to suck in a bunch of water. Until that time it remains closed. If I got that wrong I'm sure folks will re-educate me on the subject!

Next, you erred in the placement of the bypass valve. Ok, maybe that was an honest mistake. But it didn't help things. Thankfully, NSXNEXT fixed things with a pic.

Third, the guy asked for placement advice -- not "should I use a bypass valve" advice. At least let the man install it how he wants it! Ok, I get it that you don't like the valve and don't use one -- but there are some of us who do and unwanted advice is tiresome at best.

[end of rant]

i would cut it in around the same place. just use a hack saw to cut the pipe. take your time for a straight, clean cut

ya you can use a hack saw its easy...the cut is usually around the AEM decal somewhere in the centre..after the first bend.
