Question Head count: TL vs. Passat ... did anyone bother?

Wondering if any of you considered a Passat V6 when shopping for your TL. What did you think?

I did consider it, But I wanted stick, and my parents have to be able to use it, my mom doesn't know how to drive manual, so I went with the TL..

tl and the passat isn't even in the same category.. it would be the A4 that competes with the TL, needless to say i love the A4 and plan to get one in the next couple of years as my second car
reason why i got the TL over the A4 was that... umm.. actually... it was a coin flip..

I did test drive the A4 and S4, loved both of them. If you want handeling and want to have fun, Audi is much better then Acura. I got my acura because its better build quality (Hopefully). I do sometimes regret not going for the S4. but i'm only 17, i got time.

The passat might be fast, but the interior isn't all that great. It looks sorta like an A4, but not as comfortable. When you sit inside it, the seats aren't awsome. The best of all was the S4. Everything about that car i loved. I loved the seats. TL Vs. Passat, TL wins it hands down if you are looking for comfort, but performance, i bet the Passat is much better.

TL is way more comfortable , but if Passat has nav like they do in Europe , I would've considered it.

I looked at the Pasat. Didn't like the interior.

Why didn't you choose the S4? It is about $10,000 more, but if you had the option...

Only reason I would think is the TL is more comfortable. Them A4 bodies are a little cramped in the front.

i did consider passat, but it only has 2 years warranty, and it's assambled in maxico or something.... so i thought it's not reliable... plus my friend is going through lots electrical problems with his golf GTI.. so i decided to get the TL.
I like the Passat's length, TL is kinda too big for me, but greate car!

i looked at the maxima , audi a4, bmw 3series, and mits eclsipse spyder before i found my cl-s that i feel in love with. Honestly, if acura didnt have the cl-s, i would have walked out of the dealershi with the white tl that was in the showroom casue man did it look so sweet with the kit and navi. im not unhappy with my cl-s but i love what all of u guys have done to your tls and if i had known u can have soo much fun moddin a tl, i would have bought it and made it it like a tl-s. u guys are great!

I didn't like the exterior look of the passat, so I didn't even go look at it, plus it didn't have the navi and still cost as much as the TL w/ Navi.

There is an article on the new passat in the C&D and one about the A4 in the Motortrends (sorry i could be mixing them up). The new passat has a pretty nice Nav. (Well the pic looks cool) I would have gotten the S4, if i hadn't had an accident about 4 hours before my appointment with the Audi dealer. I'm only 17.. (17 + Sports car + Accident = insurance $$$.)

The Passat is a nice car, i love the lights on the interior. If you asked me who's superior, I'd tell you the Passat is inferior.

Yeah the lights are a nice purple color.. as for the rest of the car, it is pretty roomy in there. But you gotta consider they styling of each car, and what personality it has and if you would be happy with either.

My friend has a passat w/stick, maybe I'll get him to race me with my SS. Both of us are bone stock right now. I'll let you guys know who wins.

I considered the Passat V6. Thought it drove nice, but only a two year warranty. Maxima SE was comparable and you could negotiate the price. Audi A4, more $$$, but had AWD, questionable realiability. BMW was overpriced, IMO.

I bought the TL because I felt it was the best value, and had a better warranty. Haven't regretted it, until I drive a TL-S :-) JK.

Handing the "ass on a platter" ?!! No I don't think so....if the S4 is an apples-to-apples automatic. The S4 may be smaller dimensionally but weighs in at a porky 3704 lbs which is 221 lbs more than the dimensionally larger Acura 3.2TL. I drove my friend's S4 (Automatic) a while back and expected to be blown away by the acceleration but surprised to find that the TL engine is much more responsive (I did not attempt to take the S4 beyond 80 mph)....of course handling (both in foul weather and fair) is a different ball game altogether where the S4 would kick the TL's ass. Braking is also a lot better in the S4 as compared to the TL. The back seat is a joke in the S4...why provide it if it cannot be used ?!!!

just my 2c

I friend of mine did consider the TL but she bought the Passat 'cause she said the TL is to expensive. For me, the Passat has just never been in my mind.

Anyway she still loves the TL and I'm looking forward to see her reactions when I get my '02 TL-S.

First of all the Passat is built in Germany, the Golf, Jetta and that ugly Bug are the ones built in Mexico...
Actually the Passat was number one on my list than and only than the TL.
They are very close but my wife liked the TL better so I got the TL.
I drove Passat for a whole week last May on a vacationa in Europe and I loved it, much better handling that the TL and it's nice and firm as any German car is.
As far as the dashboard lighting is concerned its nice at first but is too bright compared to the white in the TL.
The sport shifting is MUCH MUCH better in the Passat, very crispy and responsive much more like a stick than the TL and even with 35HP less Passat still feels faster...

P.S. Number three on my list was the Lincoln LS V6

Just my 2 cents...

The Passat is 40 percent A4. I looked at the Passat very closely and liked the car although the interior was less than stellar.

The dealer would not budge off of the $28k price for a demo no less. I walked out and into the TL. I am very pleased with the decision.

I drove the A4 2.8. I thought I would like it but I really hated it. The TL was much more smooth and quiet. Faster too.

I came very close to buying a fully loaded Passat V6 with the 5-speed, but they weren't willing to give me enough money for my trade in so I went with the TL.

Passat was not even in the game with me.
After the Accord EX V6 was not on the list
The contender to the TL for me was the Lincoln LS. I can't see me driving a Lincoln.
The V8 LS was out of my price range.

We just signed on a 2001 TL, Firepepper Red
Ebony leather. Picking it up next week.
We drove the Passat 4-Motion GLX a week
ago. After all the hype I have read
about the Passat, it seemed to be a bit of a let down. The Acura is much more comfortable, bigger (we like big, but its a personal preference), the Passat seemed very round inside (again, the more angular Acura, a personal preference), you get a lot more
standard features for your money, you get
twice the bumper-to-bumper warranty.
The only possible downside is the Passat is
available in all wheel drive and its been
a bad winter in the Northeast. Although
most of us have lived through winters before
cars came with four wheel drive.
You should buy what makes you feel good.
I have read only good things about both cars.
