I'm ready to race one anyday.... although the chances of me lining up w/ someone in an '04 that really wants to go at it is slim to NONE. I can barely line up with ANYONE that wants to go.

well think about it, its a new car and mostly people are not gonna start racing it by gunning it at first. i know i didnt my first couple thousand miles on my car. so just wait a month or two then youll see some people who would race....

i just went driving around for an hour just for fun... i should have been studying for exams...

Anyone have a 3.2 here in the Dallas Area? I live in plano. Ive only found 3 people willing to go fast out of the blue... 2 of them were driving BMW 5's, and another a Lexus IS300. Cant hardly find anyone (Except friends) that are willing to line up.

SSM/Quartz/5AT/Navi/ 04 TL
And Im 16, so you probably shouldnt trust me with all that torque steer

i would be neck to neck if it's auto

just like the 02TL-S vs. the 02TL-S

same car...haha

the extra 10hp doesn't help since it got a little heavier and wider tires

I did, but I have mods...It was an auto and it got smoked after the launch. The '04's launch is very nice but it still petered out going into the top of second and third. The sales guys abused the shi+ outta that poor demo to even get it to keep up...

Oh, two people in my car, too!

I recently drove my father's 2004 Six-Speed TL. It was a joy to drive. The Audio System alone will make you want to stay inside the vehicle...but, the exhaust note is the best part!

We'll see if Acura will finally commit to either making an Type-S or not in the next couple of years. If they do so, I will be in the market for another TL Type-S

Well I don't know about the Type S but I know they are making the A-Spec '04 go to autoweek and read.

maybe I'm reading it wrong but I'm getting the feeling that everyone is saying that an 04' TL can beat a TL-S?? Is that with or without mods? 6spd or not, I know a modded TL-S can beat an 04'!

Well, golden, my impression from everything I have read and seen is that the '04 will get out of the hole quicker because it has better low end grunt with the extra torque and the fact that it is on demand at lower rev's than a Type S. This of course is with the auto...
Certainly the manual should be quicker than either the S or the auto '04...But as we all know, manuals take more driving skill and certainly, an S with mods will be a match for an '04 in either variety anyway...

hehe... nice kill ... it's all good .. if you try to race, you best deal w/ the consequences either way .. win or lose...

I recently replaced my stock tires with Sumitomo HTR+ tires.. and when it was around 50's out here, and if the Sumi's were warmed up .. a little brake torque and I could snap outta the hole too .. it's pretty cool what stickier tires will do for the launch...

I don't know if this helps, but in my latest Motor Trend mag they tested a 04 TL (6sp) and it ran the quarter between 14.5-14.6 .

r10apple, whats your best time again? Mine is a 14.6 @96 for now. Tire pressure was a little too low and temperatures were a little too cold (no traction).

I agree with r10 in that the 04TL auto and the 03TLS are equal because the power increase is minimal (10hp, 6ft/lbs). Now a modded TLS (headers, icebox) vs a TL6 is a good match as we would expect both to put down between 220-230 rwhp and similar (to each other) torque. again though, 6-speed takes more skill to drive well than an auto.

I had one track visit...14.503 was my best time...Worst was a 14.78x...
I had over 1/2 tank of gas, crap in the trunk and did nto play with my tire pressure at all. That was also run in full auto-no s/s or gate shifting...
It was also in the humidity of Florida and a night not too cool...

The sun of Miami has fried your melon. Either that or Luke and the boys gave you some smoke shi+ you couldn't handle...

You need to gate shift at 7k!
It's funny in that I kept hitting the rev limiter in second and it slowed me down...I suppose I was doing too many things at once to really pay attention...Welp, that and I'm not drag racing expert...My 1/8ths were better gate shifting, so certainly prepping the car with less gas, taking crap outta my trunk and lowering my tire psi into the 20's (at 36psi now) with gate shifting coulda put me in the 14.3xx's for sure. Imagine what temps in the 50's and 50% humidity would do (like today). My god, my car has been hauling complete a$$ the last week with the low humidity and temps in the 40's every night. Spins deep into second gear...

i haven't raced one yet, but i have "cruised" around with my friend's 04's auto also in Anthracite. and i've been keeping up wiht him and stuff, and i have an 03 type-s. and trust me, we weren't doing mellow driving. And why would you want to race a newr generation anyway? They redesign for a reason, so why would you if it's stock vs stock??
