hacking the 2nd gen Nav?
seems like the TSX and 3rd generation TLs are capable of been hacked in terms of changing the start up screen. Is it possible for the 2nd generation TLs? has anyone done it?

I was reading a post somewhere dont know for what car it was but they were talking about hacking something. Is that for only the newer gen's? Also curious what is this hacking of the Navi unit? What exactly are you doing to hack it and for what reason?

I saw how the guys for the 3rd gen did it....awesome! I would love to be able to put custom pics on my Navi.
I asked the guy who did all the hacking (some 18 year old!), and he said it could probably be done.
Maybe if we all ponied up some dough we could get him to do it for us?

Well if you have a DVD drive on your computer, you can certainly see whats on it.
I'd assume the startup screen would be a bitmap (.bmp) and can be changed.

In theory you could change the voices as well.

Thats pretty cool. The factory boot screen is not cutting it. Also having the voices changed would be tight as well. Definitely if anyone finds out post it. Would be interested in how to do this too.

2g navi nag hack and wallpaper?
If I upgrade to the new 2.20 navigation dvd, is it possible to do the 3rd gen navi hack (nag screen and wallpaper) or is it a hardware issue? I have a 2002 tl-s running old school nav dvd that came with the car. Anyone try this already?

I checked version 2.05B of the NAVI DVD, and the directory structure/files looks very different than the ones suggested in the hack. So I don't think the hack works on the old 2nd gen NAVI disks.
However, did anyone get the new update DVD? I too would be interested to know if you can apply the hack to the new updated DVD.

OMG! OMG! We need to find out how to do this! I've been wondering from day one how to take off the nag screen or at least display something else instead of that. I hope we get this soon. I will feel like something is missing from my TL 'til this is done. Keep me posted!

I havent messed with it at all but you think that the Images and backgrounds can be altered. If you can copy one with a Dual layer DVD then you should be able to modify pics before reburning it to the new disk.
When I get the 2.3 version I will give it a whirl. I am still on 2.05

Despite the structure of the code being different you can still alter it. All that needs to be done is to determine where in the code the .bmp image is, then change it to what you desire, and reburn it. Whoever does it first on the 2nd gen is going to have to go through a bunch of DVD's to get it right. I believe the guy who did it first on the 3rd gen said he went through over 10 discs to get it right. Once we find the image location we should be able to follow a similar outline of instructions the 3rd gen TL owners are using. I personally don't have navi and have come across this since I am hoping to do the conversion to navi soon. Don't be afraid to make copies of the discs and see what you can find. Searching the dvd should allow you to find the image files!

I read on other boards that the code is encrypted on the DVD. There's no easy hacking of the 2nd gen DVD - just the 3rd gen - because it's based on Windows CE. The 2nd gen is a proprietary OS.

I've tried messing with our Nav DVD with no luck. I can't even open the image file. It's a .psd which should open in photoshop but I get errors every time, no matter what I try. I just ordered version 2.30 so when I get that I will see if there is any change...but it's not likely.
