I agree, I'm getting a huge keyscratch taken off my trunk and asked the body shop that my dealership uses about their prices. Came out to be a lot more than I expected! Then I asked them what was up with Maaco's low prices. They said nobody with a TL should be going to Maaco...it's for old cars that have had paint faded for years and just need a cheap, quick makeover. I would shop around and get some references from other people on reliable shops in your area that offer a lifetime guarantee on their work.

Go to a local shop that has a good reputation in your area. Usually the big chain companies arent as good as a independantly owned one. Expect to pay a couple of grand or more to get an entire repaint.

Hmm...never had a car painted by Maco, but did have one painted by Earl Scheib...same thing though. Difference is that after I got my car painted emerald metallic green, the tranny went out. Long story short, the tranny shop messed up my door, and I took it to a real body shop and they were like, nice paint job, who did it? When I told them, they were in total shock :wow: I actually got a sweet quality paint job. Thing was though, I never waxed, etc. and about 3 years later, it started to oxidize. Eventually, the paint started peeling off in some spots.
They are so cheap because they don't strip off the old paint and primer before they paint. Also, they don't always pay good attention to detail and overspray is possible. They just tape it up, spray their primer over it, and then paint on top of the old paint. Huge savings in labor. I guess I got lucky that the guy who painted it knew what he was doing.
I would recommend a local paint shop for your TL though as well.
