Got a ticket for.....
Got a ticket last night for FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE!!! I couldnt even believe it! I didnt even know why I was being pulled over. The speed limit on the main street by my house is 40. The cars in front of me were doing around 30. So I made my way through with no problem. Never went over the speed limit. Then about a 1/2 mile down the road I got pulled over. I have never gotten a a ticket like this one. I am definitely going to fight this one. Speeding is usually cut and dry. You cant really get out of them if they get you on radar. But this seems to be more of a judgement call. This sucks!

They seem to be cracking down on this type of thing...
my g/f got one not too long ago on the 60 westbound near the 57 fwy interchange....she was trying to pass someone because they were going too slow...about 55 on the freeway...and as she tried to pass he broke...and the highway patrol pulled her over saying she was following too close....

hey thats nothing try going into the donut shop to get a donut and coffee and come out to find a cop is giving me a ticket for leaving my car running when i'm not in it. WTF is that about I ask and he says(the cop) i have to worry about someone stealing your car and then I (the cop) have to fill out paper work and chase it down.

Following closely? Leaving the car running?
You guys find every little thing to ***** about.
What kind of moron police office does it take to know if one car is following another car too closely. I would think that about driving all over town, day after day, year after year, 100,000's of miles, millions of cars, the police can actually tell if one car is driving too close behind another. If they can't write a simple ticket for that, how do you expect them to pin a murder on somebody?
Sorry, it's April 1st...

Hey, at least the cops are giving out tickets for infractions that actually contribute to accidents, and not just sitting behind a bridge with a radar gun!
Following too closely, sudden lane changes, driving slowly in the left lane, etc. should be ticketed at least as much as speeding. Those things do cause accidents to happen.
Now if only they'd ticket truck drivers who have loose items in their open beds, construction trucks that spew rocks and mud, and badly-maintained cars that belch oily smoke from their exhausts...

A friend of mine got pulled over one night for "impaired driving." The statey told her he saw her playing with her hair with both hands. He let her go with a warning at then end but that was the most rediculus excuse to stop someone.

sixspdbrd--you probably got cited for CVC 21703; nothing in there mentions that it only applies if your going over the speed limit. As you found out, one can be following too closely even if one is going way under the limit.
And if you guys find such a law trivial, then how about this (for CA peeps): CVC 21654(a), which basically says that you can get cited for going too slow, depending on the circumstances at the time.
