Got my Yokomaha AVS ES100

I just replaced the factory Michelin's with the Yokomaha AVS ES100 (Factory size). What a difference!! The car actually rides better and quieter with the new summer tires on it. The handling is a 100% improvement, and the car is much more responsive.

The oddest thing is that torque-steer is all but gone now. I didn't expect that to happen, but am very glad it did.

For anyone interested, I am running 34 psi front / 32 psi rear.

I heard those suck in the snow, do you have a set of winter tires/rims also?

last time I checked...they're summer tires, so it's natural for them to suck in snow

I recently moved from New England, where I needed all-season tires like you do in Ontario. I had a '94 Integra GS-R, and the absolute best tire I have ever used was the Toyo Proxes Z1. It was like my car was all-wheel-drive. I think that everyone who rode in my car ended up purchasing the Toyo's. They lasted almost 40K miles and they made a huge difference in the handling and bad weather driving.

I have 235/40/18s - I like them too. I remember that feeling when I first got them on. Awesome feel to them!

My thoughts after 500 miles on the AVS

Well, I have put about 500 miles on my new Yokomaha AVS ES100s, and here are my thoughts.

The improvement is absolutely incredible. It is as though someone snuck in and did suspension work on my car! It handles 100% better than with the stock tires, and actually rides smoother and quieter. I can put it into turns and feel the tires really holding their own, and on the highway it is now perfect.

The truly amazing thing is that all the torque-steer is gone. I can accelerate full throttle with only one finger on the wheel without grabbing to keep control.

I have replaced tires on other cars before, but NEVER experienced such an amazing improvement with any of those upgrades.

There is nothing I could recommend more to anyone who wants to make a huge improvement in their car.

But again, they are summer tires right?
I'm about to replace tires now; but I need an all season tires.
Any suggestions?

I research both the Yokohama AVS ES100 and the Dunlop SP 5000 for my summer tires, I picked the AVS because I already had winter tires. If I needed All season then SP 5000 would have been my pick.

The rating on tirerack was very close for both tires (except for snow) plus there were many positive comment and review for the SP5000. Hope this helps.

I put Toyo Proxes Z1 All Seasons on my old '94 Integra GS-R. They were fantastic - although a little expensive.

I just ordered a set of the Yoko's in 225/45/17. So I will add to this post after I have them on. I have the Dunlop SP 5000's on my other car, for all season purposes. They are excellent. They grip darn well for a less sporty tire, and are good in the rain. I was able to drive in 6 inches of snow/slush on them as well a few months ago here in the DC area.

Here's another thumbs up for Dunlop SP 5000s. I got 66,000 miles out of my first set on my '97 Nissan Maxima SE and I just replaced them with another set. Best all-season tire I've ever used.

I only got about 3,000 miles on the Dunlops. But Im sure they would be hard to beat for the combination of dry traction/snow handling.

I have the same yokohama tires on my tl-typeS and just love them. I had a set on my comaro z-28 and you can't beat the price performance value. Another big issue with me is I will never buy another Michelin tire or anything else from France. Although some michelin's are made in america, a lot are imported from France.

I recommend against the ES100's.
- My cruising speed has gone up 10mph to 90.
- My turns are now fast enough to spill my coffee all over the place.
- The much improved grip encourages too much bad behavoir.

I've got about 2K on a full set. Better when broken in.

I couldn't agree with you more!

I had a SUV for 3 years before getting the TL-S, so when I first got it I didn't really know what I was missing. After a couple of weeks on the Michelin's I knew I had to change them. I thought the SUV had taken away my "bad behavior" behind the wheel, but it seems to be coming back .

I can't wait to see how much better they get once broken in!

I just checked the Toyo's web site, the Z1 seems doesn't come with our size. What size did you put on your Int-GSR?

That was a long time ago. I believe the stock size was 195/55/15, and I think the Toyo's were 205/50/15. I don't think Toyo's website is accurate, since they only show 3 sizes, unless they are discontinuing them.

I think the Bridgestone makes a good replacement as well.

I agree

I replaced my OEM tire at around 58,000miles with the Dunlop SP 5000, and I've put on about 5,000 miles on it since.

here are my thoughts... it's quieter, better control on turns and definitely much better on wet surface....

driven on snow but my opinion would be bias since I had no threads left when I was driving my OEM tires on it... the Dunlop SP 5000 was pretty decent

Sounds Exciting. Just curious, how do the prices compare on the
AVS-ES100 vs the Dunlop SP5000?

Some months ago, in a discussion close to this, someone said
the best 'bang for the buck' was the Sumotomo. . . .which were
about 100 bucks per tire.

Milage vs cost vs ride has got to enter into it, right?

I think it depends on the specific Sumitomo. The HTR+ are an all season tire which would compare to the Dunlop 5000s. The Yokohama AVS ES100s are a summer tire which compare to a Dunlop 9000.

I got my AVS locally and paid $128 installated per tire - I think that breaks down to about $110 per tire + installation.
